• EDITORIAL: What Comes After The Result?

Last week, thousands of prospective students walked through the gates of the University of Port Harcourt with one goal—to earn a place in one of Nigeria's leading institutions.

Within hours, many walked away with more than an examination experience. They walked away with a result.

For some, it was a moment of celebration. For others, it was a reminder that dreams sometimes take unexpected turns. But whether the score exceeded expectations or fell short, it should never become the final definition of one's potential.

A result is a measurement of performance at a particular moment. It is not the complete story.

Every year, the University welcomes students who go on to become innovators, entrepreneurs, athletes, creatives, volunteers, researchers, and changemakers. Their journeys are shaped not only by admission letters but by the opportunities they embrace and the communities they become part of.

At Unique Stoary, we have witnessed this firsthand.

We've seen students discover hidden talents behind a camera, find their voices through interviews, build careers through volunteering, showcase their creativity on stage, and create lifelong networks simply by saying "yes" to an opportunity.

This week is another reminder that campus life is about more than lectures and examinations.

On Monday, 15th June 2026, the preliminary stage of the Vice Chancellor's Cup kicks off, bringing together faculties and departments in the spirit of healthy competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Beyond the goals and trophies, the tournament celebrates unity, resilience, and the vibrant student culture that defines the University of Port Harcourt.

Just a few days later, BrandForge Experience '26 arrives on Friday, 19th June 2026, gathering creatives, entrepreneurs, fashion enthusiasts, and innovators under the theme "Inspiring to Become." It is a celebration of ideas, expression, and the limitless possibilities that emerge when young people are given a platform.

These moments remind us that the University experience is not measured only by grades but by participation, collaboration, leadership, and the courage to explore new opportunities.

As one chapter closes for thousands of Post-UTME candidates, another is opening for students who are ready to make an impact beyond the classroom.

Unique Stoary Volunteer Registration is currently open and will close on Wednesday, 17th June 2026, by 3:00 PM. Click on registration link in bio.

If you're passionate about media, storytelling, photography, videography, writing, design, digital communication, or simply want to be part of the team documenting the heartbeat of Uniport, this is your opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute.

To everyone who sat for the Post-UTME examination, congratulations on taking a bold step toward your future.

To every student returning to campus, this is your reminder that some of the most valuable lessons are learned on the field, behind the camera, on the stage, in volunteer teams, and in the communities you choose to build.

    Show up for the match.
    Attend the experience.
    Join the conversation.
    Volunteer your talent.

Because the most inspiring stories are rarely about perfect beginnings—they are about people who chose to participate.

And perhaps, the next remarkable story we'll tell will be yours.

  • #SundayStoary Episode 21

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

Most of the time when we read “Arise, shine,” we treat it like a casual cliché. But an in-depth look reveals a deeper truth: God never commands you to do what He hasn't already given you the capacity to handle.

When you truly begin to shine, you don't chase influence; influence chases you. Kings and greatness are naturally guided and drawn to the brightness of your rising, just like the star guided the wise men.

    Dear Lights,
The water has been stirred. The capacity is already in you. Will you keep waiting, or will you just step in and shine?
If you are not willing to let the Word stir you up, how do you expect to attract kings and command greatness?

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

💌 Invite someone who is ready to awaken their capacity, embrace the Light, and step into the brightness of their rising.

  • EDITORIAL: More Than a Ceremony — A Convocation Week That Reintroduced the University of Port Harcourt to the World.

The 36th Combined Convocation of the University of Port Harcourt was more than an academic ceremony. It was a defining moment in the University's history—a week where excellence met legacy, innovation met tradition, and one era gracefully prepared to hand over to another.

For seven memorable days, Uniport became a gathering point for scholars, alumni, policymakers, industry leaders, students, parents, and friends who came together to celebrate not just the conferment of degrees but the enduring impact of an institution that has continued to shape leaders across Nigeria and beyond.

From the opening Jumat Service and Convocation Service to the final conferment of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, every event reflected a University committed to scholarship, innovation, leadership, and service.

The week also carried a deeper significance. It marked the last Convocation to be presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, whose tenure comes to an end in July, 2026. Throughout his administration, the University of Port Harcourt has continued to strengthen its reputation for academic excellence, research, infrastructure development, and institutional stability. The 36th Combined Convocation stood as a fitting culmination of a leadership defined by vision, progress, and an unwavering commitment to the University's growth.

The Vice Chancellor's Media Briefing set the tone for the celebrations, highlighting the University's achievements and aspirations while reaffirming its place as one of Nigeria's leading institutions of higher learning.

One of the most symbolic moments of the week was the Tree Planting Ceremony by the Best Graduating Students, Loveth Onyeguabor and Oyibo Daniel. Their act was more than ceremonial—it represented the lasting legacy that academic excellence leaves behind. As they planted trees within the University community, they also planted hope and inspiration for generations of students who will walk the same paths in pursuit of greatness.

The Red Carpet and Command Performance celebrated the University's rich cultural heritage and vibrant student life, while the Vice Chancellor's Dinner honoured 120 First Class Graduands, recognizing exceptional academic achievement and reminding the community that excellence is built through discipline, consistency, and resilience.

Thursday emerged as one of the defining days of Convocation Week.

The Research Fair and Exhibition transformed the University Library into a showcase of discovery and innovation, highlighting decades of academic excellence and groundbreaking research capable of addressing national and global challenges.

The Fireside Chat featuring Mr. Iyinoluwa Aboyeji OON —Co-Founder of Andela, Co-Founder of Flutterwave, and Founder of Future Africa—provided students and young graduates with practical insights on purpose, entrepreneurship, innovation, and life after school. His message encouraged a generation to move beyond seeking opportunities to creating them.

    Then history was made.

In a landmark announcement, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, officially announced the appointment of Professor Princewill Chike as the next Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.

The timing could not have been more symbolic. As thousands of graduates prepared to leave the University's gates to make their mark on the world, the institution itself embraced new leadership to guide its next chapter. It was a powerful reminder that while students graduate, great institutions continually renew themselves, preserving their values while embracing new possibilities.

  • "Your future is quietly being shaped by what you decide to do today."

Every achievement you admire started as a decision to show up one more time.

The graduates celebrated during Convocation Week didn't become exceptional overnight. They attended lectures when they were tired, studied when others rested, failed and tried again, and remained committed when the results weren't immediate.

Success is rarely built on one big moment. It is built on small, consistent actions repeated every single day.

This Monday, don't wait for the perfect opportunity, the perfect connection, or the perfect timing. Start with what you have, where you are, and keep moving.

    Plant the idea.
    Write the proposal.
    Read the chapter.
    Make the call.
    Learn the skill.
    Launch the business.
    Apply for the opportunity.

Remember, today's effort is tomorrow's testimony.

The difference between those who dream and those who achieve is the courage to begin and the discipline to continue.

So as a new week unfolds, choose progress over perfection, consistency over comfort, and purpose over procrastination.

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

We often look at Galatians 6:14 and talk about boasting in Christ, but we rarely look at the flip side of that weight: in the exact same way, are you living a life that allows Christ to boast about you?

God intentionally creates opportunities for you to brag in Him, but so many of us lose that divine right because the moment weakness hits, we run back to our flesh. We treat our pains, our setbacks, and our scars like things we need to hide or cover up to look qualified.

    Dear Lights,
Your scars are not your shame; they are your credentials.

If you are not willing to be set apart, how do you expect to stand out or be exclusive?

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

💌 Invite someone who is ready to stop relying on the flesh, embrace their scars, and step into total reliance on Him.

  • #SundayStoary Episode 19

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

Many people look at an "office" and only see a physical seat, a designated desk, or a title to hide behind. They treat it like a mere place to sit, waiting for a bigger room or a grander platform before they finally choose to give it their all.

    Dear Lights,
The grass isn’t greener on the other side….

What are you doing with the measure in your hands?

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

💌 Invite someone who is ready to stop waiting for a bigger title and start magnifying their current space.

Topic: Is Nigeria Getting Harder to Live In or Are People Just Complaining More?

Every day on the streets and across social media, the narrative is the same: the cost of living is soaring, the grid is unpredictable, and the pressure is mounting. We are constantly told that navigating daily life has become a extreme sport, requiring survival skills just to get by.

But if you look closely, the malls are still buzzing, new cars are hitting the roads, and premium events are constantly sold out.

We see a distinct divide forming. One side argues that the current economic reality has pushed the average citizen to their absolute limit. The other side suggests that Nigerians have simply developed a culture of hyper-focusing on the negatives, using complaints as a social bonding tool while actually adapting and thriving behind closed doors.

Is the "Nigerian dream" genuinely becoming harder to achieve, or are we just louder about our frustrations than previous generations were?

Tonight, we are looking honestly at our current reality. We’re asking:
Has our famous "Nigerian resilience" finally hit its breaking point, or are we just settling into a culture of recreational venting?

“Theatre is not merely entertainment; it is a powerful force for cultural preservation, education, political consciousness, healing, and societal transformation.”

These profound words formed the core of the 212th Inaugural Lecture of the University of Port Harcourt, delivered by the 212th Inaugural Lecturer, Professor Emmanuel Calvin Emasealu.

The lecture, themed “Let Us Play,” offered a compelling intellectual exploration of theatre as more than performance, but as a dynamic tool capable of shaping humanity, preserving identity, and influencing society across generations.

The event attracted dignitaries and intellectuals from all walks of life, including the Uniport Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, alongside the University Librarian, Professor Helen Emasealu, who is also the lecturer’s better half.
