  • Prof. Owunari Georgewill, Uniport Vice Chancellor Represents President Tinubu at Uniben’s 51st Convocation and 55th Founders’ Day Ceremonies, Charges Graduands to Embrace Educational Reforms.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has called on Nigerian graduands to fully embrace the bold and transformative initiatives introduced by his administration for the advancement of the country’s education sector.

At the 51st Convocation and 55th Founders’ Day Ceremonies of the University of Benin, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, represented the President and Commander-in-Chief, delivering a message of congratulations, renewal, and opportunity.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Prof. Georgewill encouraged graduands, staff, and students across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions to take full advantage of the government’s ongoing reforms designed to strengthen institutions and empower learners. These include; NELFund Student Loan Scheme, Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Trust Fund, major curriculum upgrades, infrastructure expansion through TETFUND and related agencies, exemption of tertiary institutions from IPPIS, the Tertiary Institutions Governance & Transparency Platform, etc.

He emphasized that these initiatives are part of a deliberate effort to reposition Nigeria’s higher education system, enhance institutional autonomy, and create improved, future-ready learning environments for the nation’s next generation of leaders.

  • It's Today!!!!!!

Win in 2026: From Mindset to Marketplace

    The harsh truth?

While you’re working long hours, someone else is turning their unique knowledge set into real influence and income.

Most people spend their lives trading time for money, believing hard work equals success. Meanwhile, the market rewards strategy, leverage, and audacious thinking.

The Mindset to Marketplace Masterclass is your wake-up call. This isn’t about working harder. It’s about seeing the game differently, spotting the gaps, claiming opportunities, and turning what you already know into something the marketplace cannot ignore.

Show up ready to shift your perspective, and you’ll discover:
The invisible rules separating the workers from the market leaders
The mindset tweaks that open doors before others even know they exist
A practical 4M framework to start monetizing your expertise with impact

Most scroll past moments like this. The few who act? They’re the ones who eventually unlock the strategic power most only dream about.

    The real question:
Are you ready to work smarter, or will you keep hustling for someone else’s vision?

    Reserve Your Spot.

  • The Weight We Carry as Medical Students.

Sometimes I wish people understood that studying Medicine is more than wearing a lab coat or carrying a stethoscope. It is a journey that constantly threatens to break you — not just academically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

As a medical student, your entire future can hang on one exam — MBBS.

    One.
    Single.
    Exam.

People say, “Just read, you’ll pass,” but they don’t understand the fear that crawls into your lungs when you’re studying at 2am, fighting sleep with coffee and tears, because you’re afraid of what happens if you fail.

Because in Medicine, failure isn’t just failure.
    It is rejection. Repetition. Reset.

While other students retake a course and move forward, medical students are told:

    “You didn’t pass. Start again.”

Do you know what it feels like to watch your mates move ahead while you go back to the beginning?
To sit in a class where you’re now the “older one”?
To pretend you’re okay while battling shame, disappointment, and the feeling that maybe you’re not good enough to save lives?

    It’s emotional torture.

You study harder than you’ve ever studied in your life, with a level of fear that no one prepares you for. And even when you pass, the relief doesn’t feel like victory — it feels like survival. Like you escaped something designed to swallow you whole.

People see our white coats. They don’t see the panic attacks, the self-doubt, the nights we whisper prayers through trembling lips:

“God, please don’t let this be the end for me.”

Every MBBS stage feels like standing at the edge of a cliff — one wrong step and the whole journey restarts. And somehow, we are expected to be strong. To smile. To keep going.

But the truth is, many of us are tired.
Not because we don’t love Medicine, but because Medicine demands pieces of us we didn’t know we could give.

    Still… we push.
    We fight.
    We hope.

Because we believe that one day, all this pain, pressure, and emotional weight will turn into purpose — and into the lives we will save.

    Until then, we carry on.
    Not because we’re strong…
But because we refuse to give up on the dream.

  • Uniport Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill Participates in the British Council’s Transnational Education (TNE) Event in Abuja.

The British Council’s Transnational Education (TNE) event in Abuja is an initiative designed to strengthen global academic partnerships and expand educational opportunities for Nigerian universities.

In his update following the event, Prof. Georgewill explained that the British Council is taking the lead in sensitizing Nigerian institutions on the value of Transnational Education. He emphasized that TNE will play a key role in improving national diversity, driving internationalization, and supporting capacity building across universities. He also highlighted how TNE aligns with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, expands access to quality education, enhances quality assurance and quality control, and helps universities meet the growing demand that domestic higher education alone cannot satisfy.

Through engagements like this, the University of Port Harcourt continues to push toward a more globally connected and academically competitive future.

  • Uniport SUG Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Dimkpa Noble Ka-Alenebari Lah, Nullifies Unauthorized Departmental Inaugurations in Uniport.

The Office of the Chief Judge of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), University of Port Harcourt, has issued a constitutional directive nullifying several departmental inaugurations conducted within the Faculty of Social Sciences without proper authorization.

In an official notice signed by Hon. Justice Dimkpa Noble Ka-Alenebari Lah, the Chief Judge stated that the affected departments organized and executed their inaugurations without notifying, involving, or receiving approval from the Office of the Chief Justice — a violation of the SUG Constitution.

According to Article 6.22.3, Sub-section 6.22.3.3 of the constitution, “The Chief Justice shall be responsible for swearing in the newly elected Executive Committee of the Union, Executives of Faculties and Departments, and members of the Students’ Union Representative Council.”

The Chief Judge emphasized that any inauguration conducted outside this constitutional mandate is “unconstitutional, procedurally defective, and legally invalid.”

Following the discovery of the unauthorized ceremonies, the Office of the Chief Judge announced the following:

    - All affected inaugurations are declared null and void.
    - Individuals sworn in through the unauthorized processes are not recognized by the SUG.
    - Such individuals are barred from carrying out any leadership functions or privileges.
    - No meetings, memos, directives, or official actions may be issued by these unrecognized executives.
    - Any defiance of this directive will be treated as gross misconduct and will attract sanctions.

Departments involved in the unauthorized inaugurations have been directed to contact the Office of the Chief Justice to regularize their processes in accordance with constitutional procedure.

Hon. Justice Dimkpa Noble reaffirmed the SUG’s commitment to transparency, due process, and the rule of law, stressing that no office or individual is exempt from constitutional compliance.

  • Here's How To Start Branding Yourself As A Student.

Many students are walking around campus with vibes, exam stress and indomie energy, but zero personal brand.

Meanwhile, your future employer is somewhere scrolling through LinkedIn like, “Who can I trust with this opportunity?”

And you? You’re posting ‘outside tonight’ and shouting “God when”.

Or are you saying: "I'll cross that bridge when I reach there"

    Toor. Let’s fix it now.

Here are simple ways to start branding yourself, even as a student: no pressure, no ring light, no tripod, nothing.

1️⃣ Pick ONE thing you want to be known for.

Not five. Not seven. Just one.

“Future Pharmacist Pen” (already taken sha )
    “Public Health storyteller”
    “Campus tech guy”
“Makeup artist who saves students’ pockets”

Your brand starts when people can say:
    “That’s the person that does…”

If they can’t complete that sentence, your branding hasn’t started.

2️⃣ Start sharing the SMALL things you already know.

People think branding is dropping TED Talks. No. It’s simply showing what you’re learning.

    Examples:
“What I learned today in Biopharmaceutics…”
“A study tip that helped me survive this week…”
    “A funny mistake I made during practicals…”
“How I improved my makeup game this semester…”

    Consistency beats perfection, every time.

3️⃣ Clean your social media like someone expecting visitors.

Your bio should not look like:
ABSU | Jesus baby | Born to be wild | Small girl big God.”

    Ah ah!

My dear, what should people follow you for?

    Fix it:
✔ Pharmacy student | Future clinical pharmacist
    ✔ Public health advocate
✔ Content creator sharing study, career & lifestyle tips

That’s a brand. Simple and clean.

    4️⃣ Your DP matters.

You can't be shouting “personal brand!” But your profile picture looks like someone hiding from EFCC.

Pick a clear, friendly, confident photo, that’s your first impression, and that's what people trust.

5️⃣ Start showing your growth journey, not perfection.

People don’t fall in love with “experts.” They fall in love with students becoming experts.

    Post things like:
    Your struggles
    Your small wins
    What you learned
What you failed at and corrected
    Behind-the-scenes of your daily grind

That's what builds connection, and connection builds brand loyalty.

6️⃣ Network like someone that wants to leave Nigeria eventually.

Reply comments. Talk to seniors. Engage other creators. Connect with lecturers with sense. Build your circle before you need your circle.

7️⃣ Be consistent even if your procrastination spirit is fighting you.

You don’t need to post daily. Just show up enough for people to trust your presence.

Remember: You are your biggest project.

And people are watching you more than you think.

If you start today, you won’t recognize yourself in 6 months.

Branding isn’t just for influencers. It’s for students who want to stand out.

    Students who want opportunities.
    Students who want visibility.
    Students who want to matter.

And that student can be YOU.
