  • ASUU Rejects Proposed UK University Campus in Nigeria.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has rejected agreements between the Federal Government and the United Kingdom on education, including plans to establish a campus of Coventry University in Nigeria.

ASUU President, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, stated the union’s position at a public lecture organised by the ASUU branch of Sa’adu Zungur University, warning that the move could undermine Nigeria’s higher education system.

He criticised the proposed campus, describing it as exploitative and inconsistent with the treatment of Nigerian students seeking education in the UK.

“They have denied Nigerians visas to study in the UK, yet they are coming here to establish universities and take our money, this is another form of colonialism, and ASUU will strongly oppose it,” Prof. Piwuna said.

The ASUU president also argued that some foreign universities were expanding into countries like Nigeria due to financial pressures and declining international student enrolment, insisting that local institutions should instead be strengthened.

He further stressed the need to preserve the committee system in Nigerian universities, warning against excessive concentration of powers in the offices of Vice Chancellors.

As the ultimatum issued by ASUU to the Federal Government on salary implementation for Professors expires, we await their next line of action.

  • Business Stoary Private Pre-Launch Recap
Headline: The Mastermind That Changed Everything.

Last night, a select group of University of Port Harcourt student entrepreneurs gathered behind "closed doors" to rewrite the future of their brands. The Business Stoary Private Pre-Launch was more than just a meeting; it was a shift in the atmosphere of campus entrepreneurship.

We had the distinct honor and privilege of hosting the one and only The Janel Rowland as our lead resource person. For someone with a vision as large and a schedule as demanding as hers, having her dedicate her time to teach our student founders was nothing short of a gift.
Janel didn't just "speak"—she dismantled old mindsets and rebuilt them with professional strategy, storytelling, and soul. To have someone of her caliber guide our very first cohort is a milestone we don't take lightly.

To Janel Rowland: Thank you for choosing to invest in the next generation of Uniport founders. Your insights are the fuel that will power these businesses to the global stage. We are beyond grateful to have had you lead this charge.

To our participants: You just received a world-class education. Now, go and show the world what you’ve learned.

A moment of pride and celebration filled the air as the University of Port Harcourt community, distinguished guests, partners, and friends gathered to witness the grand opening and commissioning of JuliRose Hotel and Suites, located at Fubara Close, Abuja Campus, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Commissioned on Friday 12th December 2025 by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University of Port Harcourt Governing Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, the unveiling of JuliRose Hotel and Suites signifies far more than the launch of a world-class hospitality facility. It represents a vision fulfilled, a commitment to excellence, and a strong investment in the growth and future of the University environment. Sincere appreciation goes to the 17th Governing Council for their unwavering support in driving this milestone.

From its refined architecture to its modern amenities and hospitality offerings, JuliRose Hotel and Suites stands as a testament to quality, comfort, and international standards. This development holds particular significance as it enriches the Uniport ecosystem—enhancing academic and professional engagements, offering new employment opportunities, and strengthening the University’s position as a hub for learning, leisure, and meaningful interaction. Special acknowledgment goes to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill, the Principal Officers, and the dedicated implementation team for their remarkable contributions.

Commendation is also extended to the visionary leadership of OilQuest Conglomerate Group, led by Engr. Julius Kaite, Group Executive Chairman; Mrs. Roseline Kaite, Executive Director, Finance; and Mr. Phillip Kaite, Managing Director. Their commitment, foresight, and strategic investment reflect a deep belief in sustainable development, institutional partnership, and community advancement.

The launch week was beautifully curated with activities that reflect the energy, warmth, and vibrant spirit that JuliRose Hotel and Suites aims to embody. From the official ribbon-cutting ceremony and elegant gala night to the soft opening of Mansonia Restaurant, the lively Student Day celebrations, and the unveiling of the Rosi Café, each moment showcased excellence and community connection.

Special appreciation goes to Prof. Bridget Nwanze and her creative team for the masterful curation of artworks that enhanced the aesthetic charm of the facility.

As JuliRose Hotel and Suites opens its doors to the University community and the wider public, it stands ready to serve as a centre of hospitality excellence, gracious service, and memorable guest experiences.
