If You're An Introvert That Just Gained Admission Into 100 Level, Pay Attention So You Won't Lose Opportunity. Let’s kill this comfortable lie early: University does not reward silence; it rewards visibility. Nobody is going to knock on your hostel door, see you curled up on your mattress reading a novel, and hand you a leadership role, an international scholarship link, or a high-paying freelance connection just because you are "peaceful and quiet... Back in secondary school, being quiet made you the "well-behaved student.. On this campus? Being completely silent makes you invisible. And in an overcrowded lecture auditorium of 500 confused freshers, invisibility is an academic and professional death sentence. Here is the brutal mistake most 100L introverts make.. You convince yourself that your only assignment is to attend lectures, sign the attendance sheet, run straight back to your room, lock the door, and avoid human contact. You tell yourself, "I don't like drama. I'm just here for my degree. Then year after year slips by: You miss out on crucial past questions and assignment updates because you refused to say hello to the person sitting next to you. You watch students with half your brainpower land student government slots, campus ambassadorships, and fellowship recommendations simply because people actually know their names. You graduate with a first class or second class upper, step into the job market, and realize nobody knows what you are capable of doing because you spent four years hiding behind the tag of "introvert. Being an introvert is a personality type; it is not an excuse for cowardice or laziness. You don't need to suddenly become the loudest party animal or turn into the noisemaker of your faculty. You don't need 200 friends. The Chief Steering Commander: Prof. Chike Princewill Rewhuamwhu Chike — 10th Substantive Vice Chancellor, Uniport. “Vision without discipline is just a normal dream, but structure, innovation, and unwavering integrity will always chart the course to institutional greatness." If the University of Port Harcourt were an ocean-going vessel charting its way into global academic prestige, Prof. Chike R. Princewill Chike is the captain at the helm holding the navigation wheel. Prof. Chike didn't rise to the university's top seat simply through classroom lectures; he brings a powerful blend of medical mastery, public health governance, and high-level administrative battle-testing: * From Cardiovascular Physiology to Executive Command: A renowned medical scholar in Cardiovascular and Tissue Perfusion Physiology, his deep clinical background trained him to make high-stakes, analytical decisions under pressure—a mindset essential for managing a university of tens of thousands. * Proven Public Governance: As the former Rivers State Commissioner for Health, he managed state-wide health crises, public infrastructure, and complex multi-stakeholder policy execution. That same political tact and administrative muscle now drive his leadership of Unique Uniport. * Uncompromising Academic & Legal Integrity: Stepping in as the 10th Vice Chancellor following a rigorous, competitive selection process, he brings a firm mandate centered on discipline, zero tolerance for misconduct, and institutional harmony. EDITORIAL: Campus Safety, Community Wins, and the Academic Pause. Campus life at the University of Port Harcourt remains as dynamic as ever, shaped by active governance, strong community bonds, and unexpected academic shifts. Even as developments unfold rapidly across our campuses, the drive and unity of Uniport community remain constant. Leadership and safety took center stage this week as the Student Union Government stepped up enforcement across campus. SUG Director of Transportation Comrade Onuchukwu issued a clear safety and roadworthiness directive to shuttle drivers, while Executive President Hon. Justice Adiele Aleruchi Azubuike warned against reckless driving and set up a dedicated Traffic Enforcement Committee to keep our roads safe. At the management level, Vice Chancellor Prof. Chike Princewill R. Chike moved to deepen host community ties, and international horizons widened as Uniport explored a partnership with China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea for a West Africa-China Institute. Management also officially released the Approved Academic Calendar for the 2026/2027 Session. Beyond administration, our community celebrated remarkable achievements and personal milestones. Warm birth anniversary wishes go out to MC Olaks following his vibrant Birthday Hangout, as well as Sandra Menekhana, a valued volunteer team member at Unique Stoary. Undergraduates in the Faculty of Agriculture also received inspiring words from Unique Alumna Marvy Onuoha, while discussions on "The Last Dance: Legacy vs New Era", a friendly football match between the preceding and succeeding Directors of Sports holding this week Saturday, sparked fresh reflection. However, the academic landscape faced a sudden turn. Following the ASUU Uniport Branch strike action declared on Wednesday September 16, 2026, exams and other academic activities were grounded and we look forward to a positive resolution at the Congress holding today. As we await further updates, the message to the Uniport community remains simple: stay calm, keep your minds sharp, and look out for one another. Use this pause productively, rest well, and remain prepared. To cap it off, our digital footprint is expanding even further with the official launch of RSU Stoary in the Rivers State University. EDITORIAL: Uniport This Week — SUG Week, Sports, Music, Politics & Entertainment. Last Thursday and Friday, Uniport came alive with the Spotify Campus Drop, a two-day experience combining music, creativity, workshops, conversations and live performances. Day One, “No Data, No Wahala,” introduced students to Spotify Premium’s offline listening experience, while Day Two, “Fresh Finds on Campus,” featured workshops, artist conversations and live performances. Unique Stoary collaborated with Spotify and was on ground throughout the two days, capturing the energy and memorable moments from the experience. Now, a new week begins with even more happening across campus. At the centre of the week is SUG Week ’26, themed “Liberation.” The celebration officially began on Sunday with Praise Night, bringing students together for worship, music and celebration. With more activities lined up, SUG Week is set to provide students with opportunities to connect, unwind and create memorable experiences beyond the classroom. Tuesday is a big day for football lovers. The Uniport Stadium will host the Uniport Freshers’ Cup Final, with BMS taking on SSLT at 10:00 AM. Later in the day, Portugal (Engineering) will face Mexico (Agric) at 2:00 PM in another highly anticipated final. Two finals, one stadium and plenty at stake. Meanwhile, the SUG political season has entered a new phase. The campaign period for students who indicated interest in contesting for elective positions has officially ended. After weeks of campaigns, promises and engagements across campus, attention now shifts to the next stage of the electoral process. With campaigning over, students have an opportunity to reflect on the candidates, their ideas and records, and the kind of leadership they want. Beyond posters and campaign slogans, the focus should remain on representation, accountability and effective service to the student community. And when the week winds down, MC Olaks Friday Night Laughs is set to bring comedy and entertainment to campus. The event holds at Unique Luxury Hotel and Suites by 6:00 PM, offering students the opportunity to relax, laugh and round off an eventful week. From SUG Week and football finals to music, student politics and comedy, Uniport has plenty happening this week. University life goes beyond lectures and examinations; it is also about the experiences, conversations, competitions and memories created along the way. As always, Unique Stoary will remain close to the action, bringing you the people, events and conversations shaping student life. Stay informed. Stay connected. Stay Uniport.
