  • EDITORIAL: The Power of Content Creators in Uniport — Personal & Departmental.

In today’s digital age, content creation has moved beyond entertainment — it has become a powerful tool for communication, branding, education, and community building. Within the University of Port Harcourt, content creators (both personal and departmental) are redefining how stories are told, especially across social platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

From skit makers, videographers, designers, writers, photographers, podcasters, to social media managers, Uniport is home to a growing network of creative minds using these platforms to document campus life, promote events, share academic updates, and highlight student culture. Through reels, short videos, livestreams, stories, and posts, these creators are shaping the digital identity of Uniport daily.

    The Benefits to the University.

    1. Increased Visibility & Branding:
With the massive reach of TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, student creators help project Uniport’s culture, excellence, and vibrancy to audiences far beyond the campus. Viral content, engaging reels, and trending formats boost the school’s online presence and brand appeal.

    2. Fast & Effective Information Dissemination:
Departmental pages and student platforms use these social media channels to quickly circulate announcements, academic updates, timetables, events, and opportunities — ensuring information reaches students in real time.

    3. Stronger Student Engagement:
Interactive content such as reels, polls, live sessions, challenges, and stories fosters connection, participation, and unity among students, making campus life more engaging and inclusive.

    4. Talent Development & Digital Skills:
Through content creation, students gain practical experience in videography, editing, digital marketing, storytelling, branding, and analytics — skills highly relevant in today’s job market.

    5. Digital Documentation & Legacy:
Social media serves as a living archive of Uniport’s academic journey, student achievements, cultural moments, and memorable events.

How Uniport Can Better Utilize Content Creators & Social Platforms.

    1. Strategic Digital Partnerships:
The university management, faculties, departments, and student bodies can collaborate with trusted creators to produce official content for orientations, matriculations, convocations, seminars, competitions, and major campus events.

    2. Structured Departmental Media Teams:
Each department and faculty can establish dedicated media teams to manage their TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook pages for consistent communication and branding.

    3. Training, Workshops & Media Bootcamps:
Regular training sessions can equip students with advanced skills in content strategy, storytelling, editing, platform algorithms, ethical media use, and digital professionalism.

    4. Recognition, Incentives & Support:
Providing awards, certificates, media grants, equipment support, and official recognition will motivate creators and encourage higher-quality content production.

    5. Centralized Digital Communication Strategy:
Uniport can develop a unified digital media framework that integrates student creators into its official communication channels, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and professionalism.

Content creators in Uniport are more than entertainers — they are digital storytellers, brand ambassadors, and community builders. Through platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, they amplify campus voices, promote student excellence, and connect Uniport to the global digital space.

At Unique Stoary, we believe in authentic storytelling and purposeful content. When empowered and properly integrated, Uniport’s content creators can transform campus communication and redefine the university’s digital identity.

  • EDITORIAL: Comfort, Community and Growth.

Across campus, students are gradually finding their rhythm. Lecture halls are coming alive, pathways feel more familiar, and the initial nervousness of resumption is giving way to confidence and belonging. For many first-year students, this transition is being made easier by the presence of a more welcoming and supportive environment—one that reassures them that they are stepping into a space designed for learning, growth, and comfort.

A notable highlight of this session is the renewed experience within the hostels. The recently renovated facilities have transformed student accommodation into a more conducive living environment. Improved infrastructure, better utilities, and enhanced comfort have contributed significantly to students’ well-being, allowing them to focus more on their studies and campus life. For hostel occupants, these changes are not just physical upgrades; they represent a commitment to dignity, safety, and quality student living.

These renovations, sponsored by TETFund, underscore the importance of sustained investment in educational infrastructure. When students are provided with functional and comfortable spaces to live and learn, the impact goes beyond convenience—it fosters productivity, community, and a positive academic experience.

As the session progresses, the campus continues to settle into a steady rhythm. Freshers are finding their place, returning students are embracing renewed facilities, and the university community moves forward with a shared sense of purpose. At Unique Stoary, we believe these moments matter, because they tell the story of progress, care, and the everyday experiences that shape student life.

  • Uniport Offshore Training Institute Partners Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Owunari Georgewill, highlighted that the partnership is focused on building technical capacity in Mechatronics Engineering among youths of Ogoni, equipping them with practical, industry-relevant skills. He emphasized that the true value of the training would not be measured by certificates alone, but by the ability of the trainees to apply the skills acquired to solve real-life problems, create opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for his continued support of HYPREP, noting that such backing remains critical to the success of sustainable development initiatives in the Niger Delta.

  • It was also funny to the point that we talked about the history of computers, what our forefathers went through before we got to the stage where we are now. I showed them AI, too. Funny how most of them don't even know what AI is. We talked about ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI tools. We even got to practice in the class.

It was an interesting class. Other classes, we were peeping to see, because it was like—it was more of an interaction. We laughed. We answered questions. Some students won some money from me because of the correct answers they gave. We gingered others. It was kind of funny, but I really did enjoy it.

Even at a point, I got so tired, because I had to teach like three classes. But nevertheless, it was fun. And that was the highlight of my day as a CORPER teacher.

Oh, I'm so happy too, I scheduled my content today, we had about 9–10 content, which was fun, so my day was pretty productive.

What about you? How was your day?

  • “The Children Who Try Too Hard”

Some children are not asking for attention.
    They are asking for relief.

They try so hard to be “good.”
They try so hard not to stress anyone.
They try so hard to hide their tears.
They try so hard to keep up — even when school drains them.

If you look closely, you’ll see it…
    Their eyes always searching.
    Their shoulders always tight.
    Their smile always too quick.

    These children don’t explode.
    They fold.
    Quietly.

This holiday, check on them too.
    Ask gentle questions.
    Offer soft spaces.
    Give room for rest.
    And remind them…
They don’t have to earn love with perfection.

Because the children who try too hard
are often the ones who feel unseen the most.

If you are a parent, sibling, caregiver or teacher—
look out for them this season.

If you find our educational contents valuable, then follow us for an amazing ride.

I am putting together an eBook that highlights psychological challenges school children face and the way forward, make sure you grab a copy to keep you ready to handle any child especially when school resumes.
I'm rooting for you and your children

  • UniAbuja Professors Reject Appointment of Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, Former Uniport Deputy Vice Chancellor, as New Vice Chancellor Over Alleged Non-Possession of a Ph.D.

Fresh controversy has erupted at the University of Abuja following the appointment of Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi — former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Port Harcourt — as the institution’s new Vice Chancellor.

The appointment was approved by the 11th Governing Council of the University, chaired by Distinguished Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, and was announced during its 80th Extraordinary Meeting held on Friday, 7th November 2025. Prof. Fawehinmi is scheduled to assume office on 10th February 2026 for a non-renewable five-year tenure.

Unique Stoary had earlier congratulated Prof. Fawehinmi on his appointment on November 11, 2025, highlighting his academic leadership and experience. However, barely a month after the announcement, a coalition of academic staff under the banner of the Concerned Academic Stakeholders of the University of Abuja formally rejected the appointment, alleging that Prof. Fawehinmi does not possess a Ph.D., which they insist was a mandatory requirement clearly stated in the advertised criteria for the Vice Chancellorship.

According to the protesting academics, the job advertisement explicitly required candidates to hold a doctoral degree, reflecting long-established norms of the National Universities Commission (NUC). While Prof. Fawehinmi is widely respected for his academic leadership, distinguished scholarship, and professional fellowships, the group argues that fellowships cannot substitute for a Ph.D. when assessing eligibility for the office of Vice Chancellor.

They warn that proceeding with the appointment despite this alleged breach could create legal, procedural, and governance challenges for the institution. The stakeholders are urging the Governing Council to review the appointment or consider the next fully qualified candidate on the shortlist to safeguard the university’s credibility.

As the tension builds, the academic community is closely following how the Council will respond to these concerns ahead of the February 2026 resumption date.

Unique Stoary will continue to track this unfolding story and provide verified updates.

  • Editorial: A New Era of Action — Uniport SUG Executives Hit the Ground Running.

The University of Port Harcourt Students’ Union Government, led by Senator Amaechi Walson Tamunotonye, continues to demonstrate that true leadership is defined by action. From day one, this administration has shown commendable urgency — responding to student needs, strengthening engagement, and ensuring visible presence across key issues affecting the Uniport community.

A notable highlight of this momentum is the proactive stance of the Students’ Judiciary Council, which has formally announced that all channels for student complaints, reports, and suggestions are now fully open and operational. This includes matters concerning welfare, academics, misconduct, or rights violations. By guaranteeing confidentiality, impartiality, and adherence to due process, the Council reinforces the administration’s commitment to transparency and justice.

This seamless coordination between the executive arm and the judiciary reflects a refreshing era in Uniport’s student governance — one where structures are active, accessible, and responsive. Senator Amaechi Walson Tamunotonye’s team is not only hitting the ground running; they are building a culture where student concerns are heard and addressed through the right channels.

As the new administration continues to create impact, we at Unique Stoary commend their early strides and encourage them to sustain this spirit of service. A stronger, more accountable student leadership is clearly unfolding — and Uniport students stand to benefit the most.

  • A staff of the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Pelumi Adebayo, suspected to be the murderer of one Ayo Aiyepekun, a young photo journalist in Lokoja, Kogi State may have committed suicide.

Oluwapelumi Adebayo’s naked lifeless body was discovered in a Lokoja hotel room at about 12 noon of Thursday, July 24.
An empty can of snipper liquid which he allegedly drank to kill himself was found in the hotel room.

He also left a suicide note which he also left in the hotel room.

Those who saw the suicide note said they could not decode the message except the last paragraph where Oluwapelumi Adebayo pleaded that they should shield the circumstances of his death from his children.

The corpse of the suspect was recovered by policemen just before journalists arrived at the hotel.

It was gathered that Pelumi checked into the private Lodge on Wednesday morning with the name Olorunpelumi Jacob. It was, however, later discovered that the name on his Correctional Centre Identity Card, where he is a Deputy Superintendent, did not include Jacob.

A source in the Lodge said he did not leave the hotel room until much later in the evening when he went out briefly and returned shortly after.

At day break on Thursday, the staff of the Lodge became curious when the guest did not come out. After knocking his door persistently without a response, they alerted the police.

On arrival, the law enforcement officers forced the door to open only to discover his lifeless body on the bed. A bottle of coke and a container of Snipper was also found in the room, fuelling the suspicion of suicide
