In school, take on leadership roles — but steer them toward purpose. This is especially important if you’re aiming for competitive scholarships or elite internships. There are two types of leadership: 1. Positional leadership 2. Transformative leadership Positional leadership is tied to a title. Transformative leadership is tied to impact. Scenario 1: I once served as a Student Union Leader — chairing meetings, coordinating committees, handling disputes. That is positional. Scenario 2: In 2019, I noticed something deeper: students from low-income backgrounds were quietly struggling with the rising transport fares on campus. Attendance was dropping. Morale was low. Many students were choosing between missing class and overspending. So I leveraged my relationships with the transport unit and the university’s Vice-Chancellor to negotiate a price ceiling for student transport. This change reduced average transport expenses by about 30% and helped ease the daily burden for hundreds of students. Our follow-up survey showed improved attendance, better morale, and more consistent study routines. That is transformative leadership. What is the difference between the two kinds? Okwulura left Enugu State and travelled all the way to Umuaka in Imo State. He went there to help a young I'm man named Ikechukwu Chinecherem, the son of Akah, who has been suffering from kidney disease for over a year. Even though the journey was long and stressful, Okwulura arrived in Umuaka in the evening. Without resting, he started a fundraising event to raise money for Ikechukwu’s treatment. He didn’t go there for fame or praise — he just wanted to help. This is not the first time Okwuluora has helped someone from Umuaka with kidney problems. This is the second youth he has supported. But sadly, after the fundraising, while he was on his way back, he was kidnapped. The kidnappers took him into the bush. It was a terrible and scary moment. But something saved him – his good name. Because of his kind heart and the respect people have for him, they let him go. We thank God he came back safe and alive. Okwuluora’s kindness should not be punished. He deserves support, not suffering. I am truly happy that he returned safe and sound. He will tell the full story after he recovers. Right now, he’s still in shock and couldn’t explain everything to me. I was so worried ,I had given him directions and made sure he arrived Umuaka safely. Hearing what happened truly hurts me. He said people should continue to donate to Ikechukwu because of him and God. God wants Ikechukwu alive
