If You're An Introvert That Just Gained Admission Into 100 Level, Pay Attention So You Won't Lose Opportunity. Let’s kill this comfortable lie early: University does not reward silence; it rewards visibility. Nobody is going to knock on your hostel door, see you curled up on your mattress reading a novel, and hand you a leadership role, an international scholarship link, or a high-paying freelance connection just because you are "peaceful and quiet... Back in secondary school, being quiet made you the "well-behaved student.. On this campus? Being completely silent makes you invisible. And in an overcrowded lecture auditorium of 500 confused freshers, invisibility is an academic and professional death sentence. Here is the brutal mistake most 100L introverts make.. You convince yourself that your only assignment is to attend lectures, sign the attendance sheet, run straight back to your room, lock the door, and avoid human contact. You tell yourself, "I don't like drama. I'm just here for my degree. Then year after year slips by: You miss out on crucial past questions and assignment updates because you refused to say hello to the person sitting next to you. You watch students with half your brainpower land student government slots, campus ambassadorships, and fellowship recommendations simply because people actually know their names. You graduate with a first class or second class upper, step into the job market, and realize nobody knows what you are capable of doing because you spent four years hiding behind the tag of "introvert. Being an introvert is a personality type; it is not an excuse for cowardice or laziness. You don't need to suddenly become the loudest party animal or turn into the noisemaker of your faculty. You don't need 200 friends. BOLD Conversations | Episode 37 Topic: Is University Education Still Affordable in Nigeria? For generations, higher education in Nigeria was heralded as the ultimate passport out of poverty and a guaranteed pathway toward socio-economic mobility. Today, that time-honored promise faces a profound structural crisis as sweeping fee hikes hit public tertiary institutions nationwide. This topic opens up a bold discussion on rising tuition and other university fees, the financial burden on students and parents, access to education, and the responsibility of government in making public university education affordable. Is higher education becoming a privilege for the wealthy rather than a right for every Nigerian? Cost-reflective pricing and university autonomy, you argue that institutions urgently need funding to maintain facilities, support research, and ensure stable academic calendars amidst soaring inflation. But when mandatory fees double or triple overnight, the burden on struggling parents and self-funded students becomes devastating—forcing thousands to defer their studies or drop out entirely. Is institutional quality worth pricing out the average Nigerian youth? Yet, tuition-free public education, you protect equal access, social mobility, and the government’s duty to invest in human capital. Yet, with public funding stretched thin and student loan schemes facing operational hurdles, can universities survive without realistic financial backing? How do we balance institutional survival with citizen accessibility without destroying young dreams? Tonight, we dissect the economic reality every student, parent, and stakeholder must navigate today. We’ll explore the root causes of rising campus costs, evaluate government interventions, and question what the future holds. 🗓 Wednesday, October 14, 2026 | 7 PM 📍 TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@UniqueStoary Education or Exclusion? EDITORIAL: The Stories That Shaped Uniport This Previous Week. The suspension of the indefinite ASUU strike has brought relief to students, with Management rescheduling the affected Second Semester Examinations and providing a clearer path towards completing the academic session. Meanwhile, institutional advancement remains in focus as NITDA and iDICE move towards establishing a Technical and Robotic Centre of Excellence at Uniport. An Access Bank delegation also visited University Management to strengthen existing partnerships. Beyond administration, the Uniport community celebrated birthdays, leadership milestones, student achievements, and entertainment. We extend warm birthday wishes to Prof. Udeme Georgewill, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies; Dr. Lekpa David, Associate Professor of Anatomy; the 10th SUG Senate President and Chairman of RIVSILF; and the SUG President, Hon. Justice Adiele Aleruchi Azubuike. Other highlights included the birthday edition of The Roast of MC Olaks, the SUG President’s attendance at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku inauguration, and the successful sign-out of Unique Stoary’s Volunteer Project Manager, Ebitimi Preye. On the sports front, the scheduled football match, tagged Last Dance, has been postponed due to rainfall and the resulting stadium conditions. A new date will be communicated. As academic activities continue and examinations enter their final week, we encourage students to remain focused, stay informed, and support one another. We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone who has successfully signed out, marking the completion of an important chapter in their academic journey, and to those signing out this week.
