Here are 5 mistakes to avoid:
    1. Only reading — close your book and see what you can remember.
    2. Cramming everything at once — study little by little.
    3. Not revising — go back to old topics regularly.
    4. Memorising without understanding — try to understand why.
    5. Getting distracted — put your phone away when studying.
Study smart, not just hard. 📖✨

  • Uniport Alumni Spotlight: Meet Dr. Kingsley Dimson.

An alumnus does not have to be a billionaire or a celebrity before he can be celebrated.
Dr Kingsley Dimson graduated from the University of Port Harcourt in 2023, but his timeline of impact started a decade earlier. While many professionals slow down after earning their degree, his medical education was just the baseline. In 2020, anticipating critical global healthcare needs, he proactively earned a Harvard certification in mechanical ventilation.

His strongest metric, however, is not just clinical precision. It is sustained service.

He spent years driving rural health missions, community outreaches, and targeted public health research—including award-winning work on hand hygiene among rural health workers. Recognition naturally followed his consistent contribution. He earned Best Public Health Research in 2023 and was named Best Doctor of the Year in 2024.

He proves that the highest form of healthcare excellence is simply consistent execution while no one is watching.

Your work does not need to be loud to be essential.

What quiet impact are you building in your field today?

▪️ If you know any Uniport Alumni doing exploits, do well to mention them in the comment section and we might just shine the spotlight on them.

  • EDITORIAL: Beyond the Dissolution—What Happens to Students' Democracy and Campus Life at Uniport?

The University of Port Harcourt community on Sunday, 19th July 2026, were stunned by one of the most consequential administrative decisions in recent student union history: the immediate dissolution of the Students' Union Government (SUG), Hall Representatives, and all other Students' Union activities.

The University's position is clear. Through a memorandum signed by the Dean of Students' Affairs, Prof. G. N. Woke, on the directive of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chike Princewill R. Chike, the administration has ordered the immediate handover of all union property and directed elected officials to appear before an investigative panel to account for their stewardship.

Equally swift was the response from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). NANS National President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, rejected the dissolution, arguing that while allegations of misconduct should be investigated, elected student leaders deserve due process, transparency, and fair hearing. In a separate statement, NANS National Director of Special Duties, Comrade Levi Sam Okuru, described the action as excessive and called for dialogue instead of outright dissolution.

The opposing positions have already ignited debates across campus and beyond.

However, beyond the legal and administrative arguments lies a more immediate question that concerns every student:

    What happens next?

The Students' Union Government is more than an executive council. It is the coordinating body behind many of the activities that shape campus life. Its dissolution leaves uncertainty around several ongoing and upcoming programmes that students have anticipated for months.

Questions are already being asked about the fate of the Fresher's Cup, VC's Cup, and the Uniport D'Or Awards, coordinated by the SUG Director of Sports, Comrade Bolarinwa David Olaniyi (Holla). Will these events continue under university supervision, be postponed indefinitely, or be cancelled altogether?

There is also uncertainty surrounding Play Fest, an initiative championed by the In-House Senate Chairman on Socials, Senator Otto Joshua, as well as the Functional Students Campaign 2026, a drug awareness programme organized by the Directorate of Students with Special Needs and hosted by Senator Henry Ikechukwu in partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Rivers State Command. The campaign is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 29th July 2026, at the Faculty of Education Auditorium. With the dissolution now in effect, students are left wondering whether this programme and similar initiatives will proceed as planned.

  • EDITORIAL: A Week That Defined Leadership Beyond Office.

Some weeks are remembered for ceremonies. Others are remembered for decisions that change lives.

The week-long close-out activities of the 9th Substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill, will be remembered for both.

Over seven days, the University community witnessed a remarkable celebration of leadership through a rally, command performance, public lecture and book launch, legacy tour, football tournament, evening of music, and thanksgiving service. While these events honoured the end of one administration, they also produced commitments that will shape the future of students for years to come.

One of the defining moments came during the Public Lecture and Book Launch when Dr. Richard Nyong announced his commitment to build a 200-room hostel for the University. Student accommodation remains one of the critical needs of every growing institution, and such a pledge reflects an understanding that improving the learning environment is one of the greatest investments anyone can make in education.

Then came the Evening of Music, where appreciation for talent turned into an extraordinary act of generosity.

After receiving commendable reports on the performances of the students from the Department of Music, Sir Chief Hon. Justice Biobele Abraham Georgewill, the twin brother of Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill, pledged scholarships for five students each in 200 Level, 300 Level, and 400 Level—a total of 15 scholarships.

    His gesture immediately inspired another.

The 7th Substantive Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph A. Ajienka, sustained the momentum by matching the commitment with scholarships for another 15 students.

Not long after, Professor Boniface A. Oriji, Director of the Emerald Energy Institute and Chairman of the Harmonized Committee on the Close-Out Activities, also pledged scholarships for five additional students.

In one evening, 35 students were given something priceless: the opportunity to pursue their education without the weight of financial burden. It is a reminder that the greatest investment any institution can make is in its people.

The week also highlighted the strength of student leadership.

On Friday, July 10, 2026, the Finance Society, University of Port Harcourt, under the leadership of Ms. Victory Kwokwo, successfully hosted Career Fair 2.0. The event brought together distinguished professionals from academia, government, finance, and industry, creating a platform where students could gain practical insights, build meaningful connections, and prepare for life beyond graduation. It was another example of how student-led initiatives continue to enrich the University's academic ecosystem.

Today, the University turns another historic page. As Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill formally hands over the reins of leadership to Prof. Chike Princewill Chike, the 10th Substantive Vice Chancellor, the institution begins a new chapter. Leadership transitions are not simply about a change in office—they are about preserving enduring values while embracing fresh ideas and new possibilities.

Looking back, the significance of the past week lies not merely in the number of events held, but in the impact they created.

A public lecture inspired the promise of a 200-room hostel. An evening of music produced 35 scholarships. A student society connected young people with accomplished professionals through Career Fair 2.0. And today, a peaceful handover ushers in a new era of leadership.

These are the moments that define great institutions.

Buildings will stand. Scholarships will transform lives. Careers will begin because of opportunities created. Leadership will change hands, but the University's commitment to excellence must remain constant.

That is the true legacy of leadership—not merely occupying an office, but leaving behind opportunities that will outlive your tenure.

2.2 Sustained Excellence: Back-to-Back Diamond Ratings
Building on the 2025 feat, the Academy not only retained the Diamond Rating in 2026 but surpassed its previous record with a superior score of 95.07%. The school became a reference point for JUPEB best practices, and its success stories were showcased at national academic forums, a direct testament to the Vice Chancellor’s drive for global relevance.

    4. Acknowledgement of Leadership
These historic milestones would not have been possible without the pragmatic, visionary, and enabling leadership of Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill. His administration provided the strategic support, infrastructural backing, policy direction, and academic freedom required for the A-Level School to thrive.

He challenged us to “break ceilings”, and under his watch, ceilings were indeed broken.
