Reading was not a habit I grew up with.

Yes, I said it. I wasn’t that girl who always had a book in her hand or spent hours in the library.
In fact, I was among those students who— even if we didn’t read— would still pass the exams.

And that’s how unconscious reading became a habit.
I found reading difficult. It just wasn’t my thing.

Meanwhile, my dad could sit for hours reading. You’d walk into his room, and he’d be lost in a book.
One day he called all of us and said,

> “This thing you all do is not good. I have a library here, and you all walk in, see me reading, and walk out. None of you want to learn this habit from me.”

That statement stuck.
And that day, I decided to rethink my life.

When I started reading, it was hard. Especially personal development books.
It felt like I was reading jargon. I could read one line over 30 times before it made sense.

But I didn’t stop.
Even when it didn’t stick, I’d pick the book again the next day.
And that’s how it became a habit.

But here’s what reading has done for me—
It has expanded my mind.
It has changed how I think, how I write, how I speak, and how I perceive life.

Through books, I’ve met authors I’ve never seen in person, yet I understand their thought patterns, their lenses, their values.
I’ve read books on psychology, emotional intelligence, marketing, fiction, and personal development.

And all of them have shaped me into who I am becoming.

Reading is not just about books.
It’s about transformation.

If you detest reading, I think it’s time to start practicing.
Even if it’s one page a day—just start.

A patient came to our facility today. A young girl of about 16/17 yrs, presenting with severe symptoms:headache, high fever, weakness,and shivering. She also reported having episodes of diarrhea. I wrote out the necessary investigations, and Urinalysis was one of them. After collecting her blood sample, I gave her a urine bottle to get urine.
Lo and behold, this was what her urine looked like. At first, I even asked if she had mistakenly collected stool instead of urine, but on closer observation, I realized it was truly her urine. At that point, I knew something was seriously wrong and she needed urgent medical attention.

For learning purposes, the appearance of this urine suggests several possible clinical conditions:

1) Hematuria / Hemoglobinuria / Myoglobinuria

The reddish-brown discoloration may be due to:
*Intact red blood cells (Hematuria)
*Free hemoglobin from hemolysis (Hemoglobinuria)
*Myoglobin from muscle breakdown (Myoglobinuria)

Any of these can make urine appear dark or blood-like.

2) Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

The cloudiness and visible particles may represent:

*Pus cells (pyuria)
*Bacteria
*Mucus
*Cellular debris
These findings are common in UTIs.

3) Severe Dehydration

Fever and persistent diarrhea can lead to significant dehydration, causing the urine to become highly concentrated, resulting in a darker colour.

4) Crystalluria
The sediment seen in the urine may include crystals such as:

*Urates
*Oxalates
*Phosphates
These may occur in metabolic disturbances or abnormal urinary conditions.

5) Pigmenturia

Certain pigments, either from medical conditions or medications can cause abnormal urine discoloration.

Recommended Laboratory Investigations

1) Full urinalysis (dipstick + microscopy)
2) Urine culture and sensitivity (if infection is suspected)
3) Full blood count (CBC)
4) Malaria parasite test
5) Kidney fxn tests (Urea, Creatinine, eGFR)
6)Stool analysis(due to diarrhea)
7) Electrolyte (to assess dehydration related imbalance)

Once you come to that point in your teaching, when your students can't wait for your period before they come to call you, then you have entered.

Something funny happened today. I had a class by a particular time, and then I decided, when it was ready to time, I decided to rest a little bit, so as to give them a little time to maybe write or finish the notes the former teacher that was in their class wrote for them before I come in and start my class.

So I was still in the staff room, relaxing a little bit, trying to give them a bit of time. And then up to five students came.

"CORPER Deborah, you have us now."

And then I started laughing, because it was so funny to me. Because I can remember those days, there were particular teachers that we couldn't wait for their period so that they could be in the class, and that we could enjoy them.

It was also funny to the point that we talked about the history of computers, what our forefathers went through before we got to the stage where we are now. I showed them AI, too. Funny how most of them don't even know what AI is. We talked about ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI tools. We even got to practice in the class.

It was an interesting class. Other classes, we were peeping to see, because it was like—it was more of an interaction. We laughed. We answered questions. Some students won some money from me because of the correct answers they gave. We gingered others. It was kind of funny, but I really did enjoy it.

Even at a point, I got so tired, because I had to teach like three classes. But nevertheless, it was fun. And that was the highlight of my day as a CORPER teacher.

Oh, I'm so happy too, I scheduled my content today, we had about 9–10 content, which was fun, so my day was pretty productive.
