• EDITORIAL: Beyond the Dissolution—What Happens to Students' Democracy and Campus Life at Uniport?

The University of Port Harcourt community on Sunday, 19th July 2026, were stunned by one of the most consequential administrative decisions in recent student union history: the immediate dissolution of the Students' Union Government (SUG), Hall Representatives, and all other Students' Union activities.

The University's position is clear. Through a memorandum signed by the Dean of Students' Affairs, Prof. G. N. Woke, on the directive of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chike Princewill R. Chike, the administration has ordered the immediate handover of all union property and directed elected officials to appear before an investigative panel to account for their stewardship.

Equally swift was the response from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). NANS National President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, rejected the dissolution, arguing that while allegations of misconduct should be investigated, elected student leaders deserve due process, transparency, and fair hearing. In a separate statement, NANS National Director of Special Duties, Comrade Levi Sam Okuru, described the action as excessive and called for dialogue instead of outright dissolution.

The opposing positions have already ignited debates across campus and beyond.

However, beyond the legal and administrative arguments lies a more immediate question that concerns every student:

    What happens next?

The Students' Union Government is more than an executive council. It is the coordinating body behind many of the activities that shape campus life. Its dissolution leaves uncertainty around several ongoing and upcoming programmes that students have anticipated for months.

Questions are already being asked about the fate of the Fresher's Cup, VC's Cup, and the Uniport D'Or Awards, coordinated by the SUG Director of Sports, Comrade Bolarinwa David Olaniyi (Holla). Will these events continue under university supervision, be postponed indefinitely, or be cancelled altogether?

There is also uncertainty surrounding Play Fest, an initiative championed by the In-House Senate Chairman on Socials, Senator Otto Joshua, as well as the Functional Students Campaign 2026, a drug awareness programme organized by the Directorate of Students with Special Needs and hosted by Senator Henry Ikechukwu in partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Rivers State Command. The campaign is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 29th July 2026, at the Faculty of Education Auditorium. With the dissolution now in effect, students are left wondering whether this programme and similar initiatives will proceed as planned.

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

We often think the path to success is paved with our own brilliant ideas and endless hustle. But the truth is, true knowledge doesn't come from gathering information; it comes from a posture of surrender. Proverbs 12:1 reminds us that whoever loves instruction loves knowledge. God’s instructions aren't suggestions to ponder—they are commands that require practical obedience. When Saul obeyed, he prophesied. Alignment always precedes the overflow.

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

💌 Invite someone who is ready to embrace instruction, walk humility, and align their timing with God's rhythm.

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

Ever look at the massive dreams in your heart, the sudden bursts of courage you get, or that quiet, persistent push to keep going even when you're tired, and wonder… where does that actually come from?

“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
    ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It’s not just coincidence. And it’s definitely not just you working on your own strength.

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

💌 Invite someone who is eager to change the course of their life and walk in alignment.

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

We live in a world that worships the hustle. We are told that if we aren’t frantic, we aren’t trying, and if we aren’t stressed, we aren’t producing. We logically complicate things that should be simple, turning our careers, our relationships, and even our faith into a heavy checklist of obligations just to satisfy our anxieties.

But there is a higher way to move. In the original Hebrew, worshiping in the "beauty of holiness" implies being clothed in splendor, majesty, and poise. To do something in its beauty means to do it for the pure, intrinsic value of the act itself—with complete presence, grace, and alignment.

When you operate from your core identity rather than your anxieties, the friction disappears. You stop clumsily rushing to check a box or win an argument. Even the heaviest, most difficult tasks are transformed into an offering—an act of art, love, and devotion. You transition from a place of frantic human logic into your true zone of genius.

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

💌 Invite someone who is tired of the frantic rush, ready to drop the heavy checklists, and eager to step into a life of quiet, unshakeable grace.

  • #SundayStoary Episode 21

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

Most of the time when we read “Arise, shine,” we treat it like a casual cliché. But an in-depth look reveals a deeper truth: God never commands you to do what He hasn't already given you the capacity to handle.

When you truly begin to shine, you don't chase influence; influence chases you. Kings and greatness are naturally guided and drawn to the brightness of your rising, just like the star guided the wise men.

    Dear Lights,
The water has been stirred. The capacity is already in you. Will you keep waiting, or will you just step in and shine?
If you are not willing to let the Word stir you up, how do you expect to attract kings and command greatness?

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

💌 Invite someone who is ready to awaken their capacity, embrace the Light, and step into the brightness of their rising.

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

We often look at Galatians 6:14 and talk about boasting in Christ, but we rarely look at the flip side of that weight: in the exact same way, are you living a life that allows Christ to boast about you?

God intentionally creates opportunities for you to brag in Him, but so many of us lose that divine right because the moment weakness hits, we run back to our flesh. We treat our pains, our setbacks, and our scars like things we need to hide or cover up to look qualified.

    Dear Lights,
Your scars are not your shame; they are your credentials.

If you are not willing to be set apart, how do you expect to stand out or be exclusive?

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

💌 Invite someone who is ready to stop relying on the flesh, embrace their scars, and step into total reliance on Him.

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

Many people look at an "office" and only see a physical seat, a designated desk, or a title to hide behind. They treat it like a mere place to sit, waiting for a bigger room or a grander platform before they finally choose to give it their all.

    Dear Lights,
The grass isn’t greener on the other side….

What are you doing with the measure in your hands?

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

The nature of light is that it doesn’t negotiate with darkness; its mere presence changes the entire room. You don't have to shout to prove you are a light, and you don’t have to force your way into spaces. You simply have to burn. Yet, so often in life, we hide our glow under the weight of fear, compromise, or the exhausting need to fit in.

Today, we are looking at Matthew 5:14-16. You are the light of the world—a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden.

Our lives are a reflection of what we allow to fuel our fire. What you consistently burn for is what will give direction to your path.

    Dear Lights,

    What is consuming your oil?

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

Are you keeping your flame burning bright, or are you letting the winds of life dim your unique glow?

  • #SundayStoary Episode 16

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

There is a law that governs the earth and the spirit, and it is as simple as it is unwavering: You cannot cheat the ground. It is absolute madness to plant corn and expect to reap plantain. Yet, so often in life, we find ourselves surprised by a harvest we didn’t prepare for.

Today, we are looking at Psalm 27:8-9. When the Lord said, "Seek ye my face," the heart didn't hesitate—it responded, "Thy face, LORD, will I seek."

Our lives are a reflection of where we have been putting our time and our heart. What you consistently chase is what will stand up and defend you when everything else falls away.

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

What are you feeding your spirit when nobody is watching?

Are the seeds you’re dropping today going to produce the kind of shade you’ll want to sit under tomorrow?

If you want the fruit, you must be intentional about the soil. You seek Him now, and He speaks for you then.

💌 Invite someone who is ready to stop guessing and start sowing intentionally.

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

Have you ever sat in a cool breeze and realized that while the wind hits everyone, not everyone feels the effect?
It’s a beautiful scenery, but it carries a deep lesson: You can be in a place and yet not feel the effect of that environment.

There is a specific kind of pain in the words: “I’ve known him for so long, I worked with him, but I never evolved.” It’s a sobering reality—you can inhabit a healthy, growth-oriented environment for years and remain exactly the same. You can be in the presence of greatness, or even the Presence of God, and stay stagnant if you aren't growing with the environment.

Growth isn't automatic; it’s an intentional absorption. It is a gift to be in an environment that helps you grow, but the responsibility is to grow WITH it.

Let’s Breathe. Reflect and journey together. 🙏

  • #SundayStoary Episode 14

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

In the desert, they looked at their provision and asked, "Manna?"—literally, "What is it?" In the storm, they looked at Jesus and asked, "What manner of man is this?"

Both were mysteries. Both were wonders.

Here is the truth: Everything God touches carries this signature. It defies logic. It tastes like whatever you need it to be. It silences the storms that should have drowned you.

But here is the real question for you today: If the same Christ lives in you, are you a wonder to your world? Or has your life become so predictable that the world no longer stops to ask "Who is He?" through you?

It’s time to stop fitting in and start becoming the "Manna"—the divine provision your industry, your campus, and your family are starving for.

Let’s talk about how to translate that internal light into a "Manna" the world can’t ignore.

💌 Invite someone who is tired of being ordinary.

Breathe. Reflect. Let’s journey together. 🙏

    See you today 🤍

  • #SundayStoary Episode 13

Sunday Stoary is more than a conversation—it’s a space where we gather to talk faith, purpose, and Christ, honestly and intentionally.

Imagine being at the Pool of Bethesda—a place literally named "House of Mercy." It was a place of light, a place of rumors of miracles, and a place where the solution was physically present in the water. Yet, for one man, thirty-eight years passed in the presence of the solution without a change in his situation.

Often, we are like that man—waiting for someone to "push us into the water" or waiting for a specific "stirring," forgetting that the One who is responsible for the stirring is standing right in front of us.

Is your faith dependent on the "stirring of the pool" (circumstances and people), or have you had an encounter with the Word that became flesh?

We'll get talking and understanding this evening.

💌 Invite someone ready to move from being a hearer to a passionate doer.

Breathe. Reflect. Let’s journey together. 🙏
