• Editorial: The Power of Direction in Defining Success.

In a world that constantly celebrates speed, noise, and visibility, it is easy to confuse motion with progress. Every day, young people are pressured to “do more,” “be more,” and “achieve faster.” But in the midst of this rush, one critical question often goes unanswered: Are we moving in the right direction?

Success is not merely about activity; it is about intentionality.

At its core, success begins with clarity—understanding what truly matters. Without this, effort becomes scattered, energy is wasted, and even achievements feel empty. Many students today find themselves overwhelmed not because they lack ambition, but because they lack direction. They chase trends, follow noise, and measure their worth by standards they did not set.

    But direction changes everything.

When you identify your priorities, you gain control over your time, your energy, and ultimately, your future. Direction means choosing purpose over pressure. It means saying no to distractions that do not align with your goals. It requires discipline—the kind that keeps you focused even when motivation fades.

This is especially important in an academic environment where distractions are constant and expectations are high. Exams, social life, financial pressures, and personal growth all compete for attention. Without a clear direction, it is easy to drift. But with intention, every action becomes meaningful.

Winning, therefore, is not just about external achievements. It is about mastering the internal battles—against doubt, fear, procrastination, and emotional instability. The greatest victories are often invisible: choosing consistency over excuses, focus over distraction, and purpose over fleeting satisfaction.

As students and young professionals, the challenge is not just to succeed, but to succeed right. To build a life that is not only impressive on the outside but fulfilling on the inside.

So pause. Reflect. Identify what truly matters to you.

Then move—not randomly, but intentionally because in the end, success is not defined by how fast you move, but by how well you choose your direction.

  • Editorial: Uniport Exams Underway — Performance Amidst Realities.

The first semester examinations at the University of Port Harcourt, which began on Monday, March 23, 2026, are now fully in motion. Across faculties, students have already sat for several papers, marking the true intensity of this academic season.

For many, the experience so far has been a mix of preparedness, pressure, and adaptation. While some students have settled into the rhythm of exams, others are still navigating the challenges that come with it—especially some who have written their exams at Ashgrove Academy.

Reports from students who have already taken exams at the centre highlight concerns around the overall examination experience. From issues of coordination to technical issues, to the conduciveness of the environment, these firsthand accounts have fueled conversations within the student community. When students walk into an exam hall, their primary focus should be on expressing what they have studied—not adjusting to conditions that may affect their performance.

These experiences bring to light an important reality: examinations are not only about academic readiness but also about the systems that support them. While the use of external centres like Ashgrove Academy may be necessary due to the university’s population, the quality of these arrangements must be carefully monitored to ensure fairness and efficiency.

At the same time, the resilience shown by students who have already written under these conditions is commendable. Despite the distractions and discomfort, many have pressed on, demonstrating focus and determination in the face of less-than-ideal circumstances.

As exams continue, there is a clear need for attention from the appropriate authorities. Immediate adjustments—where possible—and long-term planning will go a long way in improving the experience for students still scheduled to write.

For students yet to write, the message remains steady: stay focused, prepare thoroughly, and control what you can. The exam season is as much a test of composure as it is of knowledge.

At Unique Stoary, we recognize both the effort of students and the importance of a supportive academic environment. As the semester unfolds, it is our hope that every student is given not just the opportunity to write, but the right conditions to truly perform.

We wish you all excellent success.

  • EDITORIAL The Beautiful Game and the Power of Purpose: A Landmark Day at Uniport.

The roar of the crowd, the scent of fresh turf, and the palpable tension of a final whistle—last Friday, March 20, 2026, the University of Port Harcourt Stadium became more than just a sports arena; it was a theater of dreams. The Chief Ollor’s Football Leagues Finale wasn’t just a conclusion to a season; it was a masterclass in student engagement, community support, and the sheer, unadulterated joy of football.

The "double-header" lived up to its billing, delivering two high-stakes encounters where tactical discipline outweighed reckless abandon. In the Uniport Conference League, the Young Professionals proved their name was more than a moniker. In a tight, grueling match against KIZX FC, they secured a slim but decisive 1:0 victory. The "clash of titans" promised tactical brilliance, and the Professionals delivered exactly that, locking down their defense to see the game through.

The main event, the Uniport Champions League, saw the Hungry Lions face off against MCB. True to their name, the Lions displayed a predatory instinct. Despite a spirited resistance from MCB, the Lions found the back of the net to claim a 1:0 win, etching their names into the annals of Uniport sporting history.

What elevated this finale was the heavy presence of University, Student Union Government, and Local Government leadership. Seeing the stadium filled to 75% capacity was a testament to the thriving sports culture on campus. The sponsor, Chief Hon. Obarilomate Ollor, Executive Chairman of Eleme LGA, didn't just provide a name for the league; he showed up. His presence, alongside the Uniport Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. C.C. Wokocha, and a robust delegation from the Uniport SUG, sent a clear message: student extracurriculars are a priority.

The Uniport SUG was represented across all arms, highlighting the unified support for the tournament:
    - Executive Arm: Led by the SUG President, Senator Amaechi Tamunotonye Walson, and the Vice President, Comrade Etim Blessing Bassey, along with various past and present executives.
    - Legislative Arm: Led by the SUG Senate President, Senator Bestman Ayebaye Ilegimokuma, accompanied by a distinguished assembly of Senators.
    - Judicial Arm: Led by the SUG Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Dimkpa Noble La-Alenebari Lah, alongside Judges from the Judiciary.

Behind the seamless execution of this sporting spectacle was the tireless work of the Uniport SUG Director of Sports, Comrade Bolarinwa David Olaniyi, and his dedicated team. It is one thing to have a vision; it is another to manifest it with such precision. Comrade Olaniyi has proven himself to be a bridge-builder, successfully securing the partnership of Chief Hon. Obarilomate Ollor. During a strategic launch by the Director of Sports, Chief Ollor underscored his commitment to youth development with a substantial #2,000,000 support—a feat that speaks volumes of the trust and credibility Olaniyi and his team have built within and outside the university community. Their ability to manage high-level stakeholders while keeping the grassroots student interest at heart is nothing short of exemplary.

The organizers promised an entertainment experience, and they delivered. From the witty banter of Comedian Danny Spry and host MC Olaks, to the expert commentary of Uzzy D Good Guy, the atmosphere was electric. Musical performances by Eminonso & D4YG, coupled with the high-octane moves of Naira David, ensured that even during lulls in play, the energy never dipped. Crucially, the "vibe" was matched by impeccable organization. Branded water for every attendee and a visible security presence ensured that the massive crowd remained hydrated and safe—a logistical feat that stands as a tribute to the Director of Sports' commitment to excellence.

The Chief Ollor’s Football Leagues Finale was a resounding success. It proved that when student leadership—driven by the proactive Comrade Bolarinwa David Olaniyi and his team—local government support, and raw talent converge, the result is nothing short of historic. The Hungry Lions and Young Professionals may have walked away with the trophies, but the entire Uniport community walked away with a renewed sense of pride.

The bar for campus sports has been set. The question is: who will rise to meet it next year?

There’s a lot happening across the University of Port Harcourt right now. From policy shifts to the library hushes, it’s time to dive into the stories that matter.

Today on #StoaryTime, we are going deep into the heart of the Uniport experience.

  • Uniport’s Ban on Faculty and Departmental Dues Sparks Mixed Reactions Among Students and Student Leaders.

A recent directive from the University of Port Harcourt Student Affairs Department prohibiting the collection of departmental and faculty dues has generated mixed reactions across the university community.

In a memorandum issued by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Chima Chibuike Wokocha, the university announced that the collection of such dues by departments and faculties is now prohibited. The memo also directed that any monies already collected should be refunded immediately to avoid disciplinary actions.

The decision has been widely welcomed by many students who view it as a relief from the numerous financial demands often placed on them during the academic session. For several students, the directive is seen as a step toward reducing the financial burden associated with campus life.

However, the development has not been received with the same enthusiasm by many faculty and departmental student executives. These student leaders argue that departmental and faculty dues have traditionally served as a major source of funding for various academic and social activities. From organizing orientations, seminars, and academic events to supporting departmental programs, such dues have often been the financial backbone for student-led initiatives.

According to some executives, the prohibition may significantly limit their ability to effectively run programs and activities that benefit students within their departments and faculties.

Adding to the complexity of the situation is the directive that already collected dues should be refunded. For many departmental and faculty executives, this presents a major practical challenge. In several cases, funds realized from dues collection have already been committed to or spent on activities such as orientation programmes, departmental events, logistics, and other administrative needs. This has raised a pressing question among student leaders: how exactly will these refunds be made when the funds have already been utilized?

Interestingly, the conversation among students is not entirely one-sided. While many support the prohibition of dues, some students believe the issue requires a more balanced approach. They argue that rather than an outright ban, there should be a proper review and regulation of the charges being imposed.

Some students point out that in certain cases, non-statutory departmental or faculty-related charges have risen to unusually high amounts, with reports of some fees reaching as much as ₦70,000. For these students, the concern is less about the existence of dues and more about the lack of oversight and the excessive amounts sometimes demanded.

Ultimately, the directive has opened a wider conversation about transparency, accountability, and the financial structure of student activities within the university. While many students welcome the relief from financial pressure, student leaders worry about the sustainability of departmental programmes without these funds.

As the discussions continue across the university community, what remains clear is that the issue goes beyond simply collecting or banning dues. It touches on the broader question of how student activities should be funded, regulated, and managed in a way that protects students while still allowing departments and faculties to effectively carry out their programmes. For now, many are watching closely to see how the refund directive will be implemented and whether further clarifications will emerge in the days ahead.

  • EDITORIAL: Now That Matriculation Is Over — It’s Time to Get Serious with Academics.

With the matriculation ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt now concluded, and all registrations, orientations, and formalities behind us, a new chapter officially begins for students — especially the freshers. This phase is no longer about getting admitted, finding lecture halls, or settling into campus life. It is about focus, discipline, and academic excellence.

Examinations may still seem far away, but the truth is: exam preparation starts from the very first lecture. Every class attended, every note taken, every assignment submitted, and every tutorial participated in contributes to how prepared a student will be when exams finally arrive. Waiting until a few weeks to exams before becoming serious often leads to stress, panic, and poor performance.

For freshers, this is a crucial foundation stage. Your first-year GPA sets the tone for your entire academic journey. Starting strong gives you confidence, motivation, and flexibility. A good GPA opens doors — from scholarships and academic recognition to leadership opportunities and postgraduate prospects. On the other hand, a weak start can be difficult to recover from and may affect your academic standing throughout your stay in the university.

Now is the time to develop good study habits:

    * Attend lectures consistently.
    * Review your notes daily.
    * Ask questions when confused.
    * Form productive study groups.
    * Stay organized and manage your time wisely.

Beyond reading, students must also learn to balance academics with social life. While making friends, exploring campus, and participating in activities are important, academics should remain the top priority. Uniport offers a vibrant environment, but success comes to those who can combine enjoyment with responsibility.

As the semester progresses, let every student adopt a mindset of excellence. Preparation, consistency, and discipline are the keys. Whether you are a fresher or a returning student, remember: your future is being shaped daily by the choices you make now.

Start strong. Stay focused. Aim high. Your GPA — and your future — will thank you.

  • EDITORIAL: The Power of Content Creators in Uniport — Personal & Departmental.

In today’s digital age, content creation has moved beyond entertainment — it has become a powerful tool for communication, branding, education, and community building. Within the University of Port Harcourt, content creators (both personal and departmental) are redefining how stories are told, especially across social platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

From skit makers, videographers, designers, writers, photographers, podcasters, to social media managers, Uniport is home to a growing network of creative minds using these platforms to document campus life, promote events, share academic updates, and highlight student culture. Through reels, short videos, livestreams, stories, and posts, these creators are shaping the digital identity of Uniport daily.

    The Benefits to the University.

    1. Increased Visibility & Branding:
With the massive reach of TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, student creators help project Uniport’s culture, excellence, and vibrancy to audiences far beyond the campus. Viral content, engaging reels, and trending formats boost the school’s online presence and brand appeal.

    2. Fast & Effective Information Dissemination:
Departmental pages and student platforms use these social media channels to quickly circulate announcements, academic updates, timetables, events, and opportunities — ensuring information reaches students in real time.

    3. Stronger Student Engagement:
Interactive content such as reels, polls, live sessions, challenges, and stories fosters connection, participation, and unity among students, making campus life more engaging and inclusive.

    4. Talent Development & Digital Skills:
Through content creation, students gain practical experience in videography, editing, digital marketing, storytelling, branding, and analytics — skills highly relevant in today’s job market.

    5. Digital Documentation & Legacy:
Social media serves as a living archive of Uniport’s academic journey, student achievements, cultural moments, and memorable events.

How Uniport Can Better Utilize Content Creators & Social Platforms.

    1. Strategic Digital Partnerships:
The university management, faculties, departments, and student bodies can collaborate with trusted creators to produce official content for orientations, matriculations, convocations, seminars, competitions, and major campus events.

    2. Structured Departmental Media Teams:
Each department and faculty can establish dedicated media teams to manage their TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook pages for consistent communication and branding.

    3. Training, Workshops & Media Bootcamps:
Regular training sessions can equip students with advanced skills in content strategy, storytelling, editing, platform algorithms, ethical media use, and digital professionalism.

    4. Recognition, Incentives & Support:
Providing awards, certificates, media grants, equipment support, and official recognition will motivate creators and encourage higher-quality content production.

    5. Centralized Digital Communication Strategy:
Uniport can develop a unified digital media framework that integrates student creators into its official communication channels, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and professionalism.

Content creators in Uniport are more than entertainers — they are digital storytellers, brand ambassadors, and community builders. Through platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, they amplify campus voices, promote student excellence, and connect Uniport to the global digital space.

At Unique Stoary, we believe in authentic storytelling and purposeful content. When empowered and properly integrated, Uniport’s content creators can transform campus communication and redefine the university’s digital identity.

  • A Defining Week at Uniport: New Beginnings, New Battles, New Conversations, New Stories.

This week at the University of Port Harcourt is a powerful blend of academics, leadership, sports, celebration, and community — a true reflection of vibrant campus life.

On Tuesday February 10, 2026 we officially welcome a new generation of students as Uniport Matriculation holds. It’s a day of pride, hope, and fresh beginnings. To every fresher, welcome to a journey that will shape your mind, your character, and your future. This is where your Uniport story truly begins.

Then on Thursday, intellectual engagement and leadership discourse take center stage as the Uniport Students’ Union Government (SUG) hosts a Day Symposium in honour of Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill, Vice Chancellor, Uniport, themed “Resolution: From Agitations to Negotiations.” With Prof. Obari Gomba as guest speaker and a lineup of past and present SUG leaders, the symposium promises deep conversations on dialogue, leadership, and sustainable student–administration relations.

From Wednesday, the energy shifts to the pitch as the Uniport Champions League and Uniport Conference League kick off. After the highly anticipated draws held last week, teams now know their opponents, rivalries are renewed, and the chase for glory begins. Beyond trophies, these tournaments represent passion, teamwork, discipline, and the competitive spirit that unites the campus.

And beyond academics and sports, the campus comes alive with celebration and lifestyle. Tuesday night sets the vibe with the After Party Rave (Freshers Edition) holding at CJ Paradise, Choba — a perfect welcome into Uniport’s social culture. Then Thursday, love, friendship, and good energy take over with Galentine Night holding at Julirose Hotel Pool Side, creating space for connection, relaxation, and memorable moments.

At Unique Stoary, we celebrate these moments because they tell the full story of campus life — learning, leadership, competition, culture, and community. From lecture halls to football fields, from symposium halls to party nights, Uniport continues to write powerful stories — and we’re here to tell them.

Here’s to a week of new beginnings, deep conversations, fierce competition, vibrant celebrations, and unforgettable memories.
Welcome freshers. Best of luck to all teams. Insightful deliberations to our leaders. Great vibes to everyone.

    Let the stories begin.

  • EDITORIAL: Unique Stoary's One Year of Telling What Truly Matters In Uniport.

One year ago, Unique Stoary began as more than an idea—it was a conviction. A conviction that information & updates about Uniport should be accessible to all in real time. That views can be expressed honestly. That purpose is discovered not in isolation, but in community. What started as a simple space for Uniport information dissemination has grown into a living, breathing platform where people gather to reflect, learn, resolve issues and grow together.

Over the past year, Unique Stoary has become a meeting point for real voices and real journeys. Through our conversations, live sessions, shared reflections, and weekly moments like StoaryTime, BOLD Conversations, Sunday Stoary we’ve seen how stories connect hearts, spark faith, and remind us that no journey is ordinary. Each interaction has reinforced our belief that when people are given room to speak and be heard, transformation follows.

This anniversary is not just a celebration of time; it is a celebration of people. Of everyone who found us, stayed with us, shared their truths, engaged in dialogue, and believed in the vision. Unique Stoary has been shaped by its community—by your questions, your insights, your encounters, and your desire for something deeper and more meaningful.

As we mark one year, we pause to reflect—but we also look ahead with expectation. The journey continues, and there is so much more to explore, build, and become together. Here’s to growth, to shared purpose, and to many more stories that point us toward faith, meaning, and impact.

Happy One Year Anniversary, Unique Stoary.
Dear University of Port Harcourt community, the story is just beginning.

  • EDITORIAL: Comfort, Community and Growth.

Across campus, students are gradually finding their rhythm. Lecture halls are coming alive, pathways feel more familiar, and the initial nervousness of resumption is giving way to confidence and belonging. For many first-year students, this transition is being made easier by the presence of a more welcoming and supportive environment—one that reassures them that they are stepping into a space designed for learning, growth, and comfort.

A notable highlight of this session is the renewed experience within the hostels. The recently renovated facilities have transformed student accommodation into a more conducive living environment. Improved infrastructure, better utilities, and enhanced comfort have contributed significantly to students’ well-being, allowing them to focus more on their studies and campus life. For hostel occupants, these changes are not just physical upgrades; they represent a commitment to dignity, safety, and quality student living.

These renovations, sponsored by TETFund, underscore the importance of sustained investment in educational infrastructure. When students are provided with functional and comfortable spaces to live and learn, the impact goes beyond convenience—it fosters productivity, community, and a positive academic experience.

As the session progresses, the campus continues to settle into a steady rhythm. Freshers are finding their place, returning students are embracing renewed facilities, and the university community moves forward with a shared sense of purpose. At Unique Stoary, we believe these moments matter, because they tell the story of progress, care, and the everyday experiences that shape student life.
