• Uniport SUG Director of Sports Lifts Suspension on SSLT Freshers’ Cup.

    The Students’ Union Government (SUG), University of Port Harcourt, has lifted the indefinite suspension placed on the SSLT Freshers’ Cup, with immediate effect.

    The decision followed a mandatory meeting between the SSLT leadership, tournament organizers, and the Uniport SUG Directorate of Sports, where all conditions for the resumption of the competition were fully met. Necessary assurances on safety, discipline, and conduct were also provided.

    In a statement signed by the Uniport SUG Director of Sports, Comr. Bolarinwa David Holla, students were urged to maintain high standards of discipline and sportsmanship, as any form of violence or breach of peace could attract strict sanctions.

    The tournament is now set to resume as organizers ensure adequate security and crowd control for all remaining fixtures.

  • EDITORIAL: Now That Matriculation Is Over — It’s Time to Get Serious with Academics.

    With the matriculation ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt now concluded, and all registrations, orientations, and formalities behind us, a new chapter officially begins for students — especially the freshers. This phase is no longer about getting admitted, finding lecture halls, or settling into campus life. It is about focus, discipline, and academic excellence.

    Examinations may still seem far away, but the truth is: exam preparation starts from the very first lecture. Every class attended, every note taken, every assignment submitted, and every tutorial participated in contributes to how prepared a student will be when exams finally arrive. Waiting until a few weeks to exams before becoming serious often leads to stress, panic, and poor performance.

    For freshers, this is a crucial foundation stage. Your first-year GPA sets the tone for your entire academic journey. Starting strong gives you confidence, motivation, and flexibility. A good GPA opens doors — from scholarships and academic recognition to leadership opportunities and postgraduate prospects. On the other hand, a weak start can be difficult to recover from and may affect your academic standing throughout your stay in the university.

    Now is the time to develop good study habits:

    * Attend lectures consistently.
    * Review your notes daily.
    * Ask questions when confused.
    * Form productive study groups.
    * Stay organized and manage your time wisely.

    Beyond reading, students must also learn to balance academics with social life. While making friends, exploring campus, and participating in activities are important, academics should remain the top priority. Uniport offers a vibrant environment, but success comes to those who can combine enjoyment with responsibility.

    As the semester progresses, let every student adopt a mindset of excellence. Preparation, consistency, and discipline are the keys. Whether you are a fresher or a returning student, remember: your future is being shaped daily by the choices you make now.

    Start strong. Stay focused. Aim high. Your GPA — and your future — will thank you.

  • Uniport Vice Chancellor Commends Prof. Nath Abraham for Insightful 206th Inaugural Lecture at University of Port Harcourt.

    The Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Georgewill commended Professor Nath Abraham for the successful delivery of the University’s 206th Inaugural Lecture titled, “The Rudderless Ship and Its Major Rescuer".

    Professor Nathaniel Mbonu Abraham described the crises in metaphoric term as the rudderless ship. A ship does not drift because the sea is turbulent, it drift because those entrusted with navigation abdicate discipline and direction and the rescue mission as postulated by the inaugural lecture is anchored in ethical leadership, disciplined fiscal governance, strategic planning and uncompromising adherence to accountability.

    Prof. Georgewill commended Professor Nath Abraham for creditably professing his Professorship.

  • Here again
    Part 5

    Extracurricular Adventures
    Ada decided to broaden her horizons beyond lectures. She signed up for the Uniport Debate Club, held in the Faculty of Humanities auditorium. Her first debate on "Oil Dependency in Nigeria" was nerve-wracking, but her research on the Niger Delta impressed the judges. Chidi joined the Coding Club, hacking away at projects in the computer lab.
    Together, they attended a career fair at the International Conference Centre, networking with oil company reps from Shell and Chevron. Ada landed a mentorship slot with an engineer. Weekends brought fun: a trip to the nearby Garden City Amusement Park, where laughter echoed on rides. But balance was crucial; Ada skipped a party to prepare for a presentation. Emeka invited her to a cultural night, showcasing Igbo dances and Yoruba drumming.
    She performed a spoken word piece on ambition, earning applause. These activities honed soft skills—leadership, communication—that textbooks couldn't teach. As she reflected by the Choba Bridge, Ada saw how extracurriculars paved the way for holistic success at Uniport

  • A Defining Week at Uniport: New Beginnings, New Battles, New Conversations, New Stories.

    This week at the University of Port Harcourt is a powerful blend of academics, leadership, sports, celebration, and community — a true reflection of vibrant campus life.

    On Tuesday February 10, 2026 we officially welcome a new generation of students as Uniport Matriculation holds. It’s a day of pride, hope, and fresh beginnings. To every fresher, welcome to a journey that will shape your mind, your character, and your future. This is where your Uniport story truly begins.

    Then on Thursday, intellectual engagement and leadership discourse take center stage as the Uniport Students’ Union Government (SUG) hosts a Day Symposium in honour of Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill, Vice Chancellor, Uniport, themed “Resolution: From Agitations to Negotiations.” With Prof. Obari Gomba as guest speaker and a lineup of past and present SUG leaders, the symposium promises deep conversations on dialogue, leadership, and sustainable student–administration relations.

    From Wednesday, the energy shifts to the pitch as the Uniport Champions League and Uniport Conference League kick off. After the highly anticipated draws held last week, teams now know their opponents, rivalries are renewed, and the chase for glory begins. Beyond trophies, these tournaments represent passion, teamwork, discipline, and the competitive spirit that unites the campus.

    And beyond academics and sports, the campus comes alive with celebration and lifestyle. Tuesday night sets the vibe with the After Party Rave (Freshers Edition) holding at CJ Paradise, Choba — a perfect welcome into Uniport’s social culture. Then Thursday, love, friendship, and good energy take over with Galentine Night holding at Julirose Hotel Pool Side, creating space for connection, relaxation, and memorable moments.

    At Unique Stoary, we celebrate these moments because they tell the full story of campus life — learning, leadership, competition, culture, and community. From lecture halls to football fields, from symposium halls to party nights, Uniport continues to write powerful stories — and we’re here to tell them.

    Here’s to a week of new beginnings, deep conversations, fierce competition, vibrant celebrations, and unforgettable memories.
    Welcome freshers. Best of luck to all teams. Insightful deliberations to our leaders. Great vibes to everyone.

    Let the stories begin.

  • Uniport Alumni Spotlight: Dame Dr. Josephine Diete-Spiff, Queen of Twon Brass kingdom and Chairperson/Proprietress, Titare Star Royal Academy.

    Dame Dr. Josephine Diete-Spiff stands tall as one of the University of Port Harcourt’s most distinguished alumni — a woman whose life journey reflects the values of excellence, courage and service that Uniport continues to nurture.

    An alumna of the Department of Theatre Arts, Dame Dr. Diete-Spiff graduated in 1992, leaving an indelible mark on campus life as the President of the Students’ Union. Her tenure was defined by bold leadership and uncommon resolve, most notably her role in spearheading initiatives that helped curb cultism and restore peace on campus — a feat that remains memorable in the university’s history.

    Beyond Uniport, her academic and professional pursuits demonstrate a relentless commitment to growth. She holds a Law degree from Rivers State University of Science and Technology and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007. Her global academic footprint includes an MBA from the University of Liverpool (UK), a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University (USA), an Honorary PhD from Ashland University, Ohio, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Walden University.

    Today, she is widely known as the Queen of Twon Brass Kingdom in Bayelsa State, seamlessly blending traditional leadership with modern governance, advocacy and entrepreneurship. An evangelist, educationist and corporate leader, Dame Dr. Diete-Spiff has held key leadership positions across diverse sectors, including manufacturing, education, legal services and corporate governance. She has served as Independent Director at University Press PLC and is the Chairperson/Proprietress of Titare Star Royal Academy, among other notable roles.

    Driven by a passion for impact, she founded the HRM Dr. Josephine Alfred Diete-Spiff Foundation, a platform dedicated to youth and women empowerment, skills development and community upliftment. Her work continues to empower lives, particularly among vulnerable groups, reinforcing her belief that true leadership is measured by service.

    Reflecting on her time at Uniport, Dame Dr. Diete-Spiff has often described the institution as unique, crediting it for shaping her into a well-rounded individual capable of excelling across disciplines and cultures. From the stage to the courtroom, the boardroom to the throne, her journey affirms Uniport’s reputation as a breeding ground for transformational leaders.

    Dame Dr. Josephine Diete-Spiff remains a shining example of what it means to be “Uniport Made” — bold in vision, grounded in values, and committed to national development.

    If you know any Uniport Alumni doing exploits, do well to mention them in the comment section and we might just shine the spotlight on them.
