  • Some leaders manage an office. Others transform it.

Today, we celebrate Comrade Bolarinwa David Olaniyi (Holla), whose leadership as SUG Director of Sports reached far beyond the playing field. From football to basketball, volleyball, athletics, combat sports, and other sporting initiatives, his tenure reflected a commitment to building a more vibrant and inclusive sports culture at the University of Port Harcourt.

Through tournaments, strategic partnerships, and opportunities for students to compete and excel, he helped breathe new life into campus sports and inspired many to embrace the power of teamwork, discipline, and excellence.

Your impact is written not just in the events you organized, but in the opportunities you created, the talents you nurtured, and the standard you helped set for student sports.

Happy Birth Anniversary, Comrade Bolarinwa David Olaniyi (Holla).

May this new chapter bring even greater accomplishments, continued influence, and abundant reasons to celebrate.

  • EDITORIAL: Four Stories, One Campus—What This Week Says About Uniport

As the University of Port Harcourt prepares for another busy week, four major announcements stand out—not because they are extraordinary on their own, but because together they paint a picture of a university striving to balance academic excellence, administrative order, environmental responsibility, and student life.

The first is the Post-UTME Mop-Up Screening Exercise, scheduled for today Monday, July 27, 2026. For many prospective students, this represents more than just another screening exercise; it is a second opportunity to secure admission into one of Nigeria's leading universities. While candidates are expected to arrive fully prepared, the exercise also underscores the University's commitment to ensuring that no eligible applicant is left behind due to circumstances that may have prevented participation in the earlier screening.

Beyond admissions, the institution is introducing what could become one of its most impactful sustainability initiatives—the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Day. A cleaner campus is not merely about aesthetics; it is about fostering a culture of responsibility and shared ownership. If effectively implemented and embraced by students and staff alike, this initiative could significantly improve the campus environment while instilling lifelong habits of environmental stewardship.

Another significant development is the urgent meeting convened by the Dean of Students Affairs Prof. Godfrey Ngozi Woke involving the newly appointed Hostel Coordinators and Assistants, alongside the dissolved Hall Representatives and their Assistants. Following the recent restructuring of student representation, this meeting is more than an administrative formality. It signals an effort to ensure continuity in hostel administration, facilitate a smooth transition, and maintain student welfare despite the ongoing changes. At a time when many students continue to seek clarity about campus representation, effective collaboration between outgoing and incoming hostel leaders will be crucial in maintaining order and addressing students' immediate concerns.

Yet, university life is not solely defined by lectures, policies, and administrative meetings. The July Edition of Friday Night Laughs with MC Olaks scheduled for Friday, July 31, 2026 and holds at Unique Luxury Hotel serves as a reminder that student life also thrives on recreation, relaxation, and community. Events like these provide students with an opportunity to unwind after a demanding academic week, build friendships, and celebrate the vibrant social culture that makes campus life memorable.

Taken individually, these announcements may appear routine. Together, however, they highlight the multifaceted nature of university life. A campus flourishes when academic opportunities are protected, the environment is cared for, administrative systems function effectively, and students have healthy avenues for recreation.

As Uniport moves into another week, success will not be measured solely by the number of students screened or meetings held, but by how effectively these initiatives improve the everyday experience of everyone who calls the University of Port Harcourt home.

The coming days will test not only the University's plans but also the willingness of students and staff to participate actively in building the campus community they desire. Progress, after all, is a shared responsibility.

  • NANS President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (Babtee) to Visit Uniport Over Dissolved SUG Crisis.

    OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Due to the conflicting information and the series of complaints received from the dissolved Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives of the University of Port Harcourt, as well as reports submitted by the Zonal Coordinator and the Vice President (Special Duties), I will be visiting the University of Port Harcourt this week to engage with the management and all relevant stakeholders with the aim of finding a lasting solution to the issues at hand, so that peace, stability, and democratic order can finally and ultimately return to the Union.

I also wish to use this medium to appreciate the University Management for the efforts made so far in curtailing the crisis and maintaining peace within the institution. I believe that through constructive dialogue and mutual understanding, a resolution that serves the best interests of the students and the university community can be achieved.

  • 🎙️ Capacity Building Session | July Edition

    "Hail me Mazi!"

    "MAZI!!"

If you know, you know. 😄

That call-and-response became the soundtrack of today's training session, filling the room with energy, laughter, and an atmosphere where learning came alive.

Today, our volunteers had the privilege of learning from Dr. Mazi Eze, who took us on an insightful journey through confident communication, effective storytelling, impactful interviews, and public speaking.

But beyond the lessons, he left us with something even more memorable; confidence. The confidence to own our voice, ask better questions, communicate with clarity, and tell stoaries that truly matter.

Every "Hail me!" was more than a signature catchphrase, it reminded us to show up with confidence, own our voice, and communicate with purpose.

The feedback from the team has been overwhelmingly positive. It was engaging, practical, interactive, and packed with lessons we'll carry into every interview, every camera session, and every stoary we tell.

To Dr. Mazi Eze, thank you for investing in our growth and reminding us that every great storyteller must first become a great communicator.

    "Hail me Mazi!"

    "MAZI!!"

Safe to say... we'll be hearing that in our heads for a long time. 😄

🎙️ Capacity Building Session | July Edition "Hail me Mazi!" "MAZI!!" If you know, you know. 😄 That call-and-response became the soundtrack of today's training session, filling the room with energy, laughter, and an atmosphere where learning came alive.
