• 🎶 "For Enlightenment and Self-Reliance..."

As the University of Port Harcourt officially commenced activities for its 36th Combined Convocation Ceremony with the Vice Chancellor's Press Briefing, the rendition of the Uniport Anthem served as a powerful reminder of the institution's enduring values, rich heritage, and commitment to excellence.

More than just a song, the anthem reflects the spirit of a University dedicated to learning, innovation, character, and service to humanity.

  • EDITORIAL: University of Port Harcourt Convocation Should Feel Like Uniport.

As the 36th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt approaches from June 1st to June 6th, 2026, one thing is certain: Uniport is preparing to welcome thousands of graduates, parents, dignitaries, alumni and visitors back to Port Harcourt.

But beyond the gowns, speeches and certificates, there is a bigger opportunity sitting right in front of the Convocation Committee — the opportunity to make this convocation feel truly Uniport.

And what makes Uniport special? The people.

From the halls of Abuja Campus to Delta Park, Uniport has produced some of the funniest content creators, energetic hype men, talented musicians, spoken word geniuses and campus entertainers in Nigeria. This is the time to place them at the center of the celebration.

Imagine a convocation week where the atmosphere is driven by familiar campus voices and faces. Imagine MC Olaks electrifying the crowd with the kind of humor only Uniport students truly understand. Imagine Igwe of Uniport bringing his signature campus charisma into official convocation activities, creating moments that instantly go viral across social media.

Now add the smooth sounds and youthful energy of Friend Zoned performing live at convocation hangouts, dinners or after-events. Add dance crews, student DJs, fashion creatives, campus photographers, podcasters and skit makers. Suddenly, convocation becomes more than a ceremony — it becomes an experience.

Today’s university events are no longer judged only by attendance. They are judged by engagement, online conversations, memorable moments and cultural impact. The institutions winning globally understand this. They make students part of the story.

Uniport already has the talents. What remains is intentional inclusion.

The Convocation Committee, led by Professor Rosemary Ogu, DVC Academics has an opportunity to create one of the most talked-about university convocation ceremonies in Nigeria by blending academic excellence with student-driven entertainment and digital culture.

This is not about reducing the prestige of convocation. It is about modernizing the experience while preserving the prestige. The laughter, performances, content creation and social media buzz will not distract from the ceremony; they will amplify it.

    Because the truth is simple:

    People may remember the speeches.

But they will never forget the experience.

And if there is any university capable of turning convocation into a cultural festival, it is Uniport.

Let Uniport Convocation feel like Uniport.

  • EDITORIAL: The Grand Finale—A Legacy Blueprint for Uniport's 36th Convocation.

As the University of Port Harcourt formally inaugurates the 36th Convocation Ceremony Committee, the atmosphere across the University carries a unique weight. This is not just another academic ritual; it is a milestone moment for the institution. Most significantly, it marks the final Convocation presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill before the conclusion of his tenure. This reality transforms the upcoming May ceremony (May 18-23, 2026) into a "Grand Finale"—a final opportunity to solidify a legacy of excellence and set a gold standard for the future.

A leader’s final outing should be defined by precision. The 36th Committee, chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rosemary Ogu, has these vital tasks:
    1. Proper traffic management: People shouldn't be caught up in traffic gridlock on that day. Traffic should flow smoothly.
    2. Convocation Booklet: The permanent record of a student’s hard work must not be a rare commodity. The committee should ensure every graduate have a copy of the brochure as access to this document is a commitment to the students' legacy and a reflection of the administration's respect for its stakeholders.
    3. Spotlighting the Stars: The conferment of degrees is the headline, but the stories of our Best Graduating Students are the soul of the event. We call for a deliberate "Spotlight Series"—pre-event features that tell the stories of those who conquered the rigors of lecture halls.
    4. Ceremonial Dinner: This celebration of brilliance should culminate at the Vice Chancellor’s Dinner for First Class graduates. As Professor Georgewill prepares to hand over the baton, there is no greater legacy than ensuring Uniport's finest minds are integrated into the university’s future. Offering academic paths and job opportunities to these graduates isn't just a reward; it’s a strategic investment in the "Unique UniPort" of tomorrow.
    5. A Digital Frontier: In 2026, a convocation happens twice; once in the Arena and once on the screen. The synergy between the committee and the University’s official social media handles must be absolute. With this being the Vice Chancellor's valedictory convocation, the digital footprint must be impeccable; utilizing real-time updates and high-quality streaming to allow alumni and families worldwide to witness the closing chapter of this administration.
    6. Timely presentation of prizes: Awardees should get their prizes as quickly as possible. There shouldn't be unnecessary delays as experienced in the past. Also those outstanding prizes from previous Convocations should be given to the awardees, it's over 2 years.

The Vice Chancellor has tasked the committee with ensuring a "seamless and memorable" ceremony. To achieve this, the University must be open to innovative collaboration. Whether through student-led media initiatives or logistical partnerships to enhance coverage and coordination, the goal is singular:
To make the 36th Convocation the most organized, prestigious, and memorable event in recent history.

To the Class of 2026, you are the final cohort of this era. To the Committee, you are the architects of a legacy. Let us make this Convocation one that honors the past and inspires the future.

    PS
Dear Ma, Unique Stoary is open to being an unofficial part of the planning process especially in the aspect of Media. You can contact us via DM or send us a mail [email protected]

  • Birthday Tribute: A Tale Of Grace In The Archives.

In the world of Unique Stoary, we don’t just report events—we curate legacies. Today, as we celebrate the birth anniversary of our Lead Resource Person for Business Stoary, The Janel Rowland, we want to pull back the curtain on a story of radical generosity.

    📌 The "Grad2Cash" Connection (2025):
Last year, while the world was watching her groundbreaking Grad2Cash program, the Architects behind this page were watching from the shadows. We reached out, not with a budget, but with a vision for our community. Without hesitation, Janel opened the doors. She graciously carved out exclusive slots for selected members of the Stoary Community, giving them a seat at a table they didn’t even know was being set. It was our first taste of her heart for Uniport, her Alma Mater.

🤝 The "Business Stoary" Miracle (March 2026):
Fast forward to our recent Business Stoary Private Pre-Launch. The truth? We reached out late. The schedule was tight, the timing was frantic, and our pockets—as a student-driven initiative—were empty.
Yet, when we approached her, she didn’t ask about the fee or the "late notice." She asked about the Student CEOs. She stepped in, not as a paid consultant, but as a mentor invested in the soil that raised her. She had the call with us, refined our strategies, and poured out global-standard wisdom—all as a selfless "give back."

To the Queen of Strategy: 👑
The Janel Rowland, you are the plot twist every entrepreneur needs. You’ve shown us that even at the height of professional success, the most powerful move is reaching back to pull others up.

Today, we celebrate your life, your brilliance, and your unwavering grace toward your roots. May this new year bring you an overflow of the same inspiration, influence, and grace you so freely invest into others.

    Happy Birth Anniversary Ma 🎂🎉

  • Campus Dem Tori 😊😊

    Part 14: Leadership Roles
Ada ran for class rep in her department, campaigning with posters around the faculty. Speeches at town halls showcased her vision: better resources, study aids. She won, organizing tutorials and feedback sessions with lecturers. Responsibility grew; balancing duties with studies. Chidi became coding club secretary, hosting hackathons. They collaborated on events, like a tech fair at the convocation ground. Leadership taught negotiation—lobbying for extended library hours. Setbacks: a poorly attended event, but lessons in promotion. Peers respected her initiative. At a leadership seminar, she networked with alumni. As she addressed her class, Ada felt empowered, seeing leadership as a success pillar.

    Part 9: Mid-Semester Blues
Halfway through the semester, motivation waned for Ada. Lectures felt monotonous, and homesickness peaked. Rainy season floods turned Uniport paths into muddles, mirroring her mood. Chidi noticed and organized a morale-boosting movie night in the common room, screening Nigerian films. Ada confided in Fatima about doubts: "Is this worth it?" Fatima shared stories of alumni success, like Uniport grads leading oil firms. A motivational talk by a guest speaker at the Auditorium reignited her fire, emphasizing grit. Ada revamped her routine: daily goals, rewards like ice cream from the canteen. Journaling helped process emotions. She joined a yoga club at the sports center, finding zen amid chaos. Support from family calls bolstered her. By semester's midpoint, Ada emerged stronger, viewing blues as growth phases. As she studied under the library's acacia trees, she affirmed: perseverance through dips led to peaks of achievement

  • University of Port Harcourt and CypherCrescent Limited Sign MoU Extension.

The formal signing done last weekend had the Technical Director/CEO of CypherCrescent Engineer ThankGod Egbe and the Uniport Vice Chancellor Prof. Owunari Georgewill in attendance.

This extension reinforces an already strong and productive partnership and signals a renewed commitment by both institutions to deepen industry–academia collaboration. For CypherCrescent, it strengthens their mandate and capacity to deliver on their objective of transferring our Engineering Innovation Unit originally developed and validated within industry into the academic environment.

By doing this, they hope to institutionalize practice-driven engineering innovation within the university, tightening the link between research, real-world problem solving, talent development, and technology commercialisation.

Engineer ThankGod Egbe, who is an Alumni of Uniport, thanked the University of Port Harcourt and her digital Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill for their confidence in him. He is proud of this unique institution and would continue to make the university proud everywhere he goes.

  • Uniport Alumni Spotlight: Dame Dr. Josephine Diete-Spiff, Queen of Twon Brass kingdom and Chairperson/Proprietress, Titare Star Royal Academy.

Dame Dr. Josephine Diete-Spiff stands tall as one of the University of Port Harcourt’s most distinguished alumni — a woman whose life journey reflects the values of excellence, courage and service that Uniport continues to nurture.

An alumna of the Department of Theatre Arts, Dame Dr. Diete-Spiff graduated in 1992, leaving an indelible mark on campus life as the President of the Students’ Union. Her tenure was defined by bold leadership and uncommon resolve, most notably her role in spearheading initiatives that helped curb cultism and restore peace on campus — a feat that remains memorable in the university’s history.

Beyond Uniport, her academic and professional pursuits demonstrate a relentless commitment to growth. She holds a Law degree from Rivers State University of Science and Technology and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007. Her global academic footprint includes an MBA from the University of Liverpool (UK), a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University (USA), an Honorary PhD from Ashland University, Ohio, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Walden University.

Today, she is widely known as the Queen of Twon Brass Kingdom in Bayelsa State, seamlessly blending traditional leadership with modern governance, advocacy and entrepreneurship. An evangelist, educationist and corporate leader, Dame Dr. Diete-Spiff has held key leadership positions across diverse sectors, including manufacturing, education, legal services and corporate governance. She has served as Independent Director at University Press PLC and is the Chairperson/Proprietress of Titare Star Royal Academy, among other notable roles.

Driven by a passion for impact, she founded the HRM Dr. Josephine Alfred Diete-Spiff Foundation, a platform dedicated to youth and women empowerment, skills development and community upliftment. Her work continues to empower lives, particularly among vulnerable groups, reinforcing her belief that true leadership is measured by service.

Reflecting on her time at Uniport, Dame Dr. Diete-Spiff has often described the institution as unique, crediting it for shaping her into a well-rounded individual capable of excelling across disciplines and cultures. From the stage to the courtroom, the boardroom to the throne, her journey affirms Uniport’s reputation as a breeding ground for transformational leaders.

Dame Dr. Josephine Diete-Spiff remains a shining example of what it means to be “Uniport Made” — bold in vision, grounded in values, and committed to national development.

  • Uniport Alumni Spotlight: Meet Professor Okechukwu Onuchukwu, Vice Chancellor, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

From the classrooms of the University of Port Harcourt to the helm of one of Nigeria’s foremost universities of education, Professor Okechukwu Onuchukwu represents the power of academic consistency, institutional loyalty, and purpose-driven leadership.

A proud product of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Onuchukwu’s entire academic foundation was built within the Uniport system. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics, followed by a Master’s degree, and later a Ph.D. in Economics, specializing in Econometrics and Economic Theory. His journey at Uniport was not just one of learning, but of deep intellectual formation — shaped by rigorous scholarship, research discipline, and a strong commitment to excellence.

Rather than leaving academia, Professor Onuchukwu chose to give back to the system that shaped him. He rose steadily through the academic ranks to become a Professor of Economics, distinguished for his contributions to teaching, research, and mentorship. Over the years, he served Uniport in several key leadership roles, including Head of Department, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Director of the University of Port Harcourt Business School — positions through which he helped shape academic policy, faculty development, and student training.

His career is marked by scholarship and productivity. Professor Onuchukwu has authored and co-authored numerous books and over 90 academic journal articles, contributing significantly to economic research and policy discourse in Nigeria. He is also a respected member of professional bodies, including the Nigerian Economic Society, and has supervised and mentored countless students who now occupy strategic positions across academia, government, and the private sector.

In November 2021, his long record of service and leadership culminated in his appointment as Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rivers State. As Vice Chancellor, he has focused on academic discipline, institutional stability, staff development, and the promotion of integrity within the university system — values deeply rooted in his Uniport training.

His leadership style reflects the enduring influence of his alma mater: quiet confidence, intellectual depth, respect for process, and an unwavering belief in education as a tool for societal transformation.

Beyond administration, Prof. Onuchukwu remains a scholar, mentor, and advocate for quality education. His journey reminds current students and young academics that greatness is often built through patience, service, and commitment to one’s calling.

Today, Professor Okechukwu Onuchukwu stands as one of Uniport’s distinguished alumni — proof that the University of Port Harcourt does not only produce graduates, but builders of institutions and shapers of minds.

Your Uniport journey can take you anywhere — lecture rooms, boardrooms, or leadership offices. What matters is how you prepare, serve, and give back.

▪️ If you know any Uniport Alumni doing exploits, do well to mention them in the comment section and we might just shine the spotlight on them.

  • Uniport Alumni Spotlight: Meet Dr. Victor Otaigbe Ayemere, Group Managing Director/CEO of Zeenab Group.

From the bustling corridors of the University of Port Harcourt to the center of Nigeria’s agribusiness transformation — Dr. Victor Otaigbe Ayemere embodies what it means to lead with vision, discipline, and purpose.

Studying Accounting at Uniport, Ayemere sharpened his understanding of structure, strategy, and financial systems. But the traditional corporate path wasn’t enough. He saw a bigger picture — one where agriculture could move beyond subsistence and evolve into a scalable, export-driven powerhouse capable of feeding nations and empowering communities.

This conviction led him to establish Zeenab Foods Group, one of Nigeria’s rapidly expanding agricultural and food-processing conglomerates. The company has become a trusted name in commodity processing, value-chain development, and food distribution — all driven by innovation, technology, and deep investment in local capacity.

Under Ayemere’s leadership, Zeenab Foods is not just a business.
It is a catalyst for rural development.
It is a bridge between farmers and global markets.
It is a shining proof that agriculture — when led with vision — can be both profitable and transformational.

Dr. Ayemere’s leadership roles extend beyond Zeenab Group, as he serves as the Coordinator of the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture in China. As a multifaceted professional, he holds various positions, including Vice President, International Business, Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Deputy National President, Cassia Tora Producers, Processors and Exporters of Nigeria. He is also a Board member of four thriving companies across Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Furthermore, he is the founder of the Nigerian Exporters Hub (NEXHUB), a dynamic electronic platform that connects buyers and sellers for international trade, solidifying his position as a champion of African trade and commerce.

Today, Dr. Victor Ayemere stands tall as one of Uniport’s distinguished alumni, reminding us that a degree is more than a certificate. It is a seed — capable of growing an entire ecosystem.

Uniport Alumni Spotlight: Meet Dr. ▪️ If you know any Uniport Alumni doing exploits, do well to mention them in the comment section and we might just shine the spotlight on them. _____________________________________________ We have a WhatsApp channel. • Uniport Alumni Spotlight: Meet Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, Governor of Abia State.

From the lecture halls of the University of Port Harcourt to the commanding heights of banking, economic policy, and public leadership — Dr. Alex Chioma Otti has built a career that proves excellence is not an act, but a lifelong commitment.

Studying Economics at the University of Port Harcourt, Dr Otti distinguished himself early, graduating with a First Class Honours degree in 1988. His years at Uniport were marked by an uncommon blend of academic brilliance and leadership: he served first as Treasurer, then President of the Nigerian Economics Students Association (NESA), and even took on the role of News Editor of the Uniport Mirror campus publication. His devotion to academics earned him recognition as the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Economics, the best in the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Overall Best Graduating Student of his year.

Yet, instead of walking the predictable path of academia, Otti envisioned a future shaped by financial intelligence, reforms, and nation-building.

This vision propelled him into Nigeria’s banking sector, where he rose steadily through institutions such as Nigerian International Bank (Citibank), UBA, and subsequently became the Group Managing Director/CEO of Diamond Bank Plc. Under his leadership, Diamond Bank strengthened its global footprint, expanded its customer reach, and implemented modern digital banking systems that contributed to making the institution one of Nigeria’s most innovative banks of its era.

His academic journey didn’t end at Uniport. Otti obtained an MBA from the University of Lagos, followed by executive programs at Columbia Business School, Stanford Business School, Wharton (University of Pennsylvania), and INSEAD, France — training that sharpened his competence and broadened his worldview. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to finance and national development, the University of Port Harcourt awarded him an honorary Doctor of Science degree in 2012.

But Dr Otti’s greatest pivot came when he stepped into the political arena — choosing service over comfort. Guided by a desire to rebuild institutions and restore the dignity of governance, he contested and won the office of Governor of Abia State in 2023, where he continues to champion reforms grounded in transparency, fiscal discipline, and people-centered development.

His leadership today bears the imprint of his Uniport years: intellectual curiosity, discipline, courage, and a commitment to excellence.

Beyond public office, Dr. Otti is known for his mentorship, philanthropy, and investment in human capital. His work continues to inspire young Nigerians to believe that with integrity, competence, and resilience, they too can shape the future.

Today, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti stands tall as one of Uniport’s most distinguished alumni — a reminder that education is not just a qualification, but a launchpad for nation-building, innovation, and transformational leadership.

Your degree isn’t just a certificate. It’s a platform to lead, to innovate, and to impact generations.

  • University of Port Harcourt Alumnus, Engineer Obed Joe Donates Luminex Camera G54 to the Department of Film and Multimedia, Uniport.

This was received on behalf of the University by the Uniport Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill. He commended Prof. Nwafor and Prof. Ihejirika for all their concerted efforts to reposition the Faculty.

The Department of Film and Multimedia is domiciled in the Faculty of Communications and Media Studies.

Since there's a Department of Film and Multimedia, it's expedient we have quality videos and coverage of Uniport and her activities.
