• 🎙️ BOLD Conversations – Episode 15

Topic: DO PEOPLE CHANGE OR DO WE JUST SEE THEIR REAL SELF LATER?

We’ve all had that moment—a friend, a partner, or a colleague suddenly shifts, and we’re left wondering: "When did you become this person?" We look for the turning point, the lesson learned, or the change of heart. But there is a more uncomfortable question: Did they actually change, or did they simply run out of reasons to hide who they were all along?

Is growth a genuine transformation, or is it merely the shedding of a mask once the stakes have changed? Are we witnessing evolution, or just the inevitable exposure of a hidden reality?

Tonight, we are peeling back the layers of human behavior. We’re asking:

If the version of them you loved was a performance, is it fair to hold them accountable for the script they were reading?

Stop trying to force past excuses onto present actions. Let’s talk about the uncomfortable truth of human nature—whether we are constantly becoming new, or just revealing more of the old.

The Governing Council of University of Port Harcourt has commissioned the institution’s revitalised bottling plant, marking a significant stride in its drive for sustainability and institutional growth. The commissioning ceremony, held over the weekend, was led by the Chairman of Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.

The upgraded facility, now equipped with modern, state-of-the-art machinery, boasts an impressive production capacity of up to 8,000 bags per day. This development is expected to significantly boost the University’s internally generated revenue while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

As part of its oversight functions, the Council also undertook an inspection of key infrastructure projects across the University. Among these was the Federal Government-backed solar farm project, designed to ensure uninterrupted power supply within the campus. Additionally, the Council reviewed progress on an ongoing hostel accommodation project under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement aimed at addressing the growing housing needs of students.

In a move that underscores its commitment to academic excellence and staff development, the Council approved the promotion of several academic staff to the ranks of Professor and Associate Professor. Furthermore, seven staff members were elevated to the rank of Directors, alongside the promotion of Deputy Registrars, as well as personnel within the Bursary, Audit, and other administrative cadres.

Reaffirming the Council’s vision for the institution, Senator Ohuabunwa emphasized its commitment to positioning the University on the global stage. He noted that sustained investment in infrastructure, academic advancement, and innovation will not only strengthen the University’s standing but also establish it as a benchmark for excellence in higher education.

  • EDITORIAL: The Grand Finale—A Legacy Blueprint for Uniport's 36th Convocation.

As the University of Port Harcourt formally inaugurates the 36th Convocation Ceremony Committee, the atmosphere across the University carries a unique weight. This is not just another academic ritual; it is a milestone moment for the institution. Most significantly, it marks the final Convocation presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill before the conclusion of his tenure. This reality transforms the upcoming May ceremony (May 18-23, 2026) into a "Grand Finale"—a final opportunity to solidify a legacy of excellence and set a gold standard for the future.

A leader’s final outing should be defined by precision. The 36th Committee, chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rosemary Ogu, has these vital tasks:
    1. Proper traffic management: People shouldn't be caught up in traffic gridlock on that day. Traffic should flow smoothly.
    2. Convocation Booklet: The permanent record of a student’s hard work must not be a rare commodity. The committee should ensure every graduate have a copy of the brochure as access to this document is a commitment to the students' legacy and a reflection of the administration's respect for its stakeholders.
    3. Spotlighting the Stars: The conferment of degrees is the headline, but the stories of our Best Graduating Students are the soul of the event. We call for a deliberate "Spotlight Series"—pre-event features that tell the stories of those who conquered the rigors of lecture halls.
    4. Ceremonial Dinner: This celebration of brilliance should culminate at the Vice Chancellor’s Dinner for First Class graduates. As Professor Georgewill prepares to hand over the baton, there is no greater legacy than ensuring Uniport's finest minds are integrated into the university’s future. Offering academic paths and job opportunities to these graduates isn't just a reward; it’s a strategic investment in the "Unique UniPort" of tomorrow.
    5. A Digital Frontier: In 2026, a convocation happens twice; once in the Arena and once on the screen. The synergy between the committee and the University’s official social media handles must be absolute. With this being the Vice Chancellor's valedictory convocation, the digital footprint must be impeccable; utilizing real-time updates and high-quality streaming to allow alumni and families worldwide to witness the closing chapter of this administration.
    6. Timely presentation of prizes: Awardees should get their prizes as quickly as possible. There shouldn't be unnecessary delays as experienced in the past. Also those outstanding prizes from previous Convocations should be given to the awardees, it's over 2 years.

The Vice Chancellor has tasked the committee with ensuring a "seamless and memorable" ceremony. To achieve this, the University must be open to innovative collaboration. Whether through student-led media initiatives or logistical partnerships to enhance coverage and coordination, the goal is singular:
To make the 36th Convocation the most organized, prestigious, and memorable event in recent history.

To the Class of 2026, you are the final cohort of this era. To the Committee, you are the architects of a legacy. Let us make this Convocation one that honors the past and inspires the future.

    PS
Dear Ma, Unique Stoary is open to being an unofficial part of the planning process especially in the aspect of Media. You can contact us via DM or send us a mail [email protected]

To the Class of 2026, you are the final cohort of this era. To the Committee, you are the architects of a legacy. Let us make this Convocation one that honors the past and inspires the future. • You don’t need to “conquer” the week.
You Only need to show up with clarity and self-awareness which is more powerful than any rush.

Go into this Monday knowing that you are capable, grounded and allowed to move at a healthy pace.

    Have a blessed week.

  • University of Port Harcourt Commences Construction of Access Barrier at Julirose Hotels and Suites Roundabout.

In order to allow guests and visitors of Julirose access at all times, the Uniport Management is constructing an access barrier to limit access to the University at odd hours in the night save for going to the hotel.

With this, there won't be pretence of accessing the University while claiming to be a guest of Julirose Hotel.

  • Leadership in Action: Celebrating Prof. Owunari Georgewill’s Commitment to Educational Excellence.

In a time where leadership is often measured by words and titles, true distinction lies in action. This is why the remarkable service of Owunari Georgewill, Vice Chancellor of University of Port Harcourt, as the Chief External Examiner for Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Rivers State deserves both recognition and celebration.

Serving in such a demanding role requires more than oversight—it calls for vigilance, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Prof. Georgewill has exemplified all these qualities and more. From traveling across multiple examination centres to engaging directly with coordinators, his hands-on involvement reflects a rare kind of leadership—one that prioritizes presence over convenience.

His efforts have played a crucial role in ensuring the credibility, fairness, and seamless conduct of examinations throughout Rivers State. At a time when the integrity of educational systems is more important than ever, his dedication serves as a powerful reminder that standards are upheld not just by policies, but by people who are willing to do the work.

What makes his service particularly inspiring is his willingness to lead from the front. Rather than remaining behind the scenes, he actively participates in the processes that shape the future of young Nigerians. This level of commitment reinforces trust in the system and safeguards opportunities for thousands of students.

Prof. Georgewill’s work reminds us that leadership goes beyond giving direction—it is about responsibility, visibility, and impact. It is about showing up, doing the hard work, and ensuring that excellence is not just expected, but achieved.

At Unique Stoary, we celebrate leaders who embody these ideals. His dedication to strengthening educational systems and upholding integrity stands as a beacon of inspiration to both current and future generations.

Thank you, Sir, for your tireless service and for continuing to set the standard for excellence in education.

  • 🎙️ BOLD Conversations – Episode 14

Topic: OPPORTUNITY VS LUCK: What Really Changes People’s Lives?

We often hear that "luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." But what happens when you’ve prepared for years and the door never opens? Or when someone else steps into a life-changing moment seemingly out of nowhere, while you’re still grinding in the shadows?

Is your success a result of the strategic moves you made, or were you just in the right room at the right time? Can you actually "manufacture" luck, or are we all just players in a game of cosmic coincidence?

Tonight, we are pulling back the curtain on the mechanics of success. We’re asking:

If hard work was the only variable, wouldn't everyone at the bottom be at the top by now?

Stop attributing everything to "grace" or "hustle" for a moment. Let’s talk about the thin line between the breaks we earn and the breaks we’re given.

    🗓 Today Wednesday, April 15, 2026 | 7PM
    📍 TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@uniquestoary

Today’s fourteenth episode of BOLD Conversations is for everyone wondering if their big break is a matter of time or a matter of chance.

See you by 7PM. Let’s make BOLD.

BOLD Conversations — where minds are sharpened, perspectives are stretched, and clarity begins with courage.
