Uniport SUG Judicial Council Nullifies Department of Music Inauguration.

The Students’ Union Government Judicial Council at the University of Port Harcourt has declared the recent inauguration of the Department of Music executive officers null and void.

In an official memo dated September 3, 2026, signed by Chief Judge Hon. Justice Clement Hope Onyinyechi and Deputy Chief Judge Hon. Justice Nwinuka Biaka Leeleebari, the council cited a breach of union directives and constitutional protocol. The council emphasized that under Article 6.22.3.3, exclusive authority to swear in faculty and departmental executives rests solely with the Judicial Council, noting that Deans, HODs, and Staff Advisers do not possess such powers.

The council confirmed that all departmental inaugurations remain postponed until the First Semester of the upcoming academic session. The affected Department of Music executives have been directed to contact the Chief Judge's office immediately to rectify the issue or face potential fines and further legal action.
