Uniport SUG Electoral Releases Electoral Guidelines And Eligibility.
To be eligible to contest for any position of leadership in the Students' Union, all aspirants must meet the following criteria:
1. Must be a valid registered student of the University who is financially up to date.
2. Must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 3.50. The CGPA should be documented in a spreadsheet attached to the nomination form and duly signed by the Head of Department. However, for students in the College of Health Sciences and other programmes where CGPA is not used, their raw results shall be computed to arrive at a CGPA of not less than 3.50.
3. Must not be on any disciplinary suspension by the Union or the University that is detrimental to the peace and order of the University.
4. Must not be on academic suspension or temporary withdrawal from studies.
5. Any aspirant caught using force within or outside the University to coerce the Electoral Committee into being partisan, either through threats, bribery, or any act capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process, shall be disqualified.
6. Nomination forms must be personally collected from and officially returned to the ELECO Chairman, Secretary, or Coordinator within the stipulated deadline. Late, incomplete, or proxy submissions will be rejected without the right of appeal.
7. Must participate in the compulsory community service, security screening, and manifesto.
8. Any aspirant vying for the position of Senate President or Deputy Senate President must have previously served as a Senator.
9. Any aspirant vying for the position of Chief Judge must have previously served as a Judge.
10. Any aspirant vying for the position of Judge must have previously served as a Barrister.
11. Must not belong to any cult group, secret society, or unlawful association. Aspirants must pass a background clearance.
12. Must not hold any public office recognized under the University.
13. All submitted credentials, signatures, and personal details must be 100% authentic. Any discovery of falsified grades, forged signatures, or manipulated documents before, during, or after the election shall result in immediate disqualification and nullification of election results.
14. In digital or online voting processes, any attempt by an aspirant or their supporters to compromise the voting platform, manipulate student credentials, employ automated bots, or conduct unauthorized login attempts shall result in immediate disqualification and possible security prosecution.
15. The office of the President shall be for a single tenure.
16. Any aspirant who has served in the Union twice shall not be eligible to contest the election.
17. Any aspirant found to have been involved in any financial misconduct while serving in any Union office shall not be eligible to contest the elections.
Note: All aspirants must sign a binding undertaking to abide strictly by these guidelines, the Students' Union Constitution, and the certified final results declared by ELECO, subject only to legitimate petitions filed through the recognized Election Petition Tribunal.
