The University of Port Harcourt has received a major boost to teaching, learning, and research following the intervention of its strategic partner, Tein Jack-Rich CON, Founder and President of Belema Oil Producing Limited. A distinguished graduate of the Faculty of Engineering, Tein Jack-Rich has once again demonstrated his commitment to giving back to his alma mater by upgrading facilities in the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering. The Uniport Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, alongside members of the university management, inspected the upgraded facilities and the extensive rehabilitation carried out in key classrooms used for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The intervention includes fully air-conditioned classrooms equipped with smart boards, cameras for real-time online and hybrid teaching, reliable routers, and a hybrid solar power system to ensure uninterrupted learning. In addition to the complete renovation of the classrooms, the new facilities have been designed to support modern teaching methods and efficient learning management, strengthening the department’s capacity for academic excellence and research innovation. The excitement and appreciation expressed by staff and students during the inspection underscored the significance of this intervention and its positive impact on the university community. INDEFINITE SUSPENSION PENDING DISCIPLINARY ACTION. The Office of the Director of Sports, Students' Union Government (SUG), hereby directs the IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION of the Engineering Champions League, effective from tomorrow, Thursday 5th February 2026. This directive follows the reported incident of fighting and the destruction of facility property (Dressing Room Glasses) at the Sports Complex. Such conduct is a gross violation of the University’s sporting code of conduct. Consequently: All scheduled matches and activities related to this league are hereby cancelled until further notice. The matter has been officially referred to the Sports Committee Disciplinary Committee for thorough deliberation and investigation. The organizers are directed to await the invitation and subsequent verdict of the Disciplinary Committee, which will determine the penalties and the conditions for any potential lift of this suspension.
